The Demos Shipwright Engineering Corporation

The Bakura Sector Defense Forces was forced to privatize the Demos shipyards due to the immense cost of production. The Universal Exports, Inc. consortium snatched up the opportunity. Now the shipyards service the private sector as well as the military. Currently, DESC offers modification shops and the installation of Uncle Jonah's Droid Warehouse brand droid brain suites for the private sector. Currently, the shipyards are busily churning out the first runs of their warship-level classes of starships, under contract to the government of the Bakura Sector. Several of these ships are available for demonstrations or purchase by other governments. Plans continue apace to produce our own classes of commercial vessels in the near future.

Here are the "floor" models of what is currently available. Alternatively, you can visit a Universal Exports Trade Yard and peruse their stock.

The Demos System

The Demos system is a rather sparse system in and of itself, with only five planets to call its own. Demos is the second planet from the sun, and the only inhabitable one; the closest, Alpha, is much too close to the sun to be of any use- circuitry fries after few short minutes in any proximity beyond Demos' protective asteroid belt. The outer three planets are gas giants, Beta, Delta, and Gamma, with possible mining uses, but no one has made any investment in them so far. The three gas giants are clustered together in a relatively tight proximity, creating a giant gravity signature that prevents hyperdrive navigation in any close proximity to them. Between the sun and the gas giants, the only safe hyperspace entry point in the entire system is the range of space between Demos and the gas giants. This has created endless possibilities for the security of the system, which Governor Grimm has been very quick to exploit.

Planet Demos and her Defenses

The Asteroid Belt

Demos is surrounded by a natural asteroid belt, which has subsequently had all gaps but one filled. This pathway leads to the planet proper, and is wide enough to accomodate a Super Star Destroyer. Both ends of the gap are protected by two large asteroids apiece, which have been converted to large sentry stations. Each one holds two squadrons of starfighters at all times, and is armed with a variety of weapons, including planetary ion cannons. Each sentry station projects a deflector shield across the mouth of the pathway.

The asteroid belt itself has a dual purpose. It protects all other approaches to the shipyards naturally (and is supplemented with mines), and protects Demos from the ravages of her sun. The area of space surrounding the asteroid is seeded with strategically placed cloaked gravity well projectors, which prevents anyone from dropping in too close. Also spread throughout are cloaked sensor arrays that alert the sentry stations and can be used to jam incoming ships' sensors and transmissions.

The Moons

Demos has two moons, Cyrinic and Pandion. Cyrinic serves as the home to the capital ship manufacturing port for ships such as starcruisers and Star Destroyers. Two drydocks are built into the moon. Several other repair docks and skeleton frames are in orbit around it. Pandion serves as the manufacturing docks for smaller scale frigates and Dreadnaughts. It also has several frames in orbit. Both moons are protected by energy sheilds projected from the planet.

The Stations

For defense purposes, Demos has a ring of four Golan II Defense Platforms. In actuality, these are not originals, but copies manufactured for this purpose. The engineering is superb, for Governor Grimm has exacting standards for his pet project. Governor Grimm intends to add more, but at this time budgeting does not permit it, and would perhaps be overkill in the process.

There are two other, larger stations in orbit above the planet as well. The first is the repair and drydock facility for starfighters. The second serves as a general service and repair port for Smuggler's Band members who wish to have modifications or service work done on their ships. Other orbital drydocks for repair and construction of various-sized ships dot the area around Demos.

Demos

Demos proper has only one large city, inhabited by the technicians, sonstruction crews, staff, and their families. Smaller outposts and resource harvesting efforts dot the planet's surface. In the future, the planet may become a major industrial complex, but for now, ship manufacturing is the main objective.

Demos-manufactured ships are now availabe for sale in small numbers. Demos also offers affordable modification rates to all Smuggler's Band members. To find out more, visit a Universal Exports Trade Yard near you!
