Glen Urquhart - Death of the Oldest Tenant-Farmer on the Seafield Estates.
-The death is announced of Mr Donald Maclean, familiarly known throughout the district as Donall Thomais, one of the oldest tenant-farmers on the Seafield estates in Glen Urquhart. Mr Maclean belonged to a family who have held farms in different parts of the Glen for several centuries past, and was directly descended from the famous family of the Macleans of Urguhart, otherwise known as "The Macleans of the North', from whom the lands of Urquhart originally passed into the hands of the Grants. His grandfather, one of the veterans who distinguished themselves by their personal bravery at the battle of Culloden, having been severely wounded in that engagement, was yet able to ride home immediately on his charger, with one of the English bullets in his body, which he is said to have carried with him to his grave.
The deceased was personally distinguished for his social and kindly disposition. In his prime he was noted for his native humour, his sound judgement, and love of song, and was himself no mean impromptu versifier. After the new arrangement of reletting of farms took place some twenty years ago, he retired from taking any active interest in local politics. Mr Maclean, who was verging on fourscore, is survived by all his family. His remains were on Wednesday conveyed to their last resting-place in the Kilmore burying-ground, near the shore of Loch Ness, the funeral being attended by a large concourse of people.

FLORENCE MAUDE(SPEARS)McLEAN -(Lewis, P.E.I. - 1922)
The sad death occured on February 14 at her home in Lewis, Lot 60, of Mrs. Florence M. McLean, beloved wife of Mr. James McLean formerly of Inverness-shire, Scotland. Mrs. McLean had been stricken ill following news of the death of her son, Basil, age 19 on September 1st, 1918, at the front, just before the Armistice was signed. The shock of the sad news caused blindness and a feeling of melancholy from which she never recovered. The late Mrs. McLean was a granddaughter of the late Donald Livingstone, school master of Murray Harbor. She moved with her husband and family to the province from Halifax last August and it was hoped that the climate here would have a beneficial effect upon her health. Mr. McLean's sister Mrs. Pearson, came out from Glasgow in June to nurse her sister-in-law, but all that human love and care could do were unavailing. The late Mrs. McLean was thirty nine years of age and leaves to mourn besides her husband, two daughters, Catherine Jane, ten years and Mary Ellen, seven years. Though comparitively strangers in the community, the family had made many warm friends in the neighborhood among whom the late Mrs. McLean was much respected for her kind disposition and Christian character. All that neighbors could do was done to assist with sympathy and affection the family in their time of sorrow. The funeral which was largely attended by the farmers of the community, was conducted by Rev. Mr. McLellan, of Valleyfield. Interment was made in Caledonia Cemetery on February 21st. The bereaved husband and father will have the sympathy of all in his sad loss.

JAMES MacLEAN - (June 29, 1939 - Halifax, Nova Scotia)
City wide regret was occasioned by the death of James MacLean, 67 which occured suddenly last evening at the family home, 8 Edinburgh Street. Mr. MacLean was born at Inverness-shire, Scotland, son of the late Duncan and Catherine MacLean, both of Inverness-shire. James immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1896. James worked in the shipping department of Moirs, Confectioners in Halifax from 1915 to 1921, he was top salesman in Nova Scotia for Fuller Brush Co., in 1926 and manager of Halifax Furnishers, Ltd. until his retirement a few months ago. Although not in robust health for some time, his death was entirely unexpected, and comes as a great shock to his many friends. Mr. MacLean was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church and took an active interest in its affairs. Surviving are his wife, two sons, John and Chester, both of Halifax, and three daughters (Mrs. C. Roache), Dorothea and Mary, also of Halifax. The funeral will take place from Knox Presbyterian Church, Agricola Street, at 4 p.m. Rev. F.R. Meredith will conduct the service, Rev. W. R. JESSIE MacLEAN - (November 3, 1950 - Inverness, Scotland)
With the passing of Mrs. Pearson, Balnain, the Braes of Urquhart have lost an esteemed and well-known resident. A native of Balnain, Mrs. Pearson spent many of her early years in Glasgow, and later lived for some years with her brother in Canada, retiring to her native glen some 20 years ago. Of a bright, cheerful disposition, Mrs. Pearson delighted to entertain friends with tales from her vast store of reminiscences, and she enjoyed a deserved reputation as a born reconteuse. Of a kindly and hospitable nature, she bore malice to none, and her friendly nature will be missed by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. Although complaining recently of ill health, her death at the residence of her grand-daughter in Inverness was unexpected. She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1945. The funeral, which took place on Monday to Kilmore burying ground, was largely attended; the officiating clergymen being Rev. Mr. Graham, St. Mark's, and Rev. F. Matheson, Free Church, Glen Urquhart.
