OK WHAT IS VTEC, MANY PEOPLE HEAR ABOUT "VTEC" AND DO NOT KNOW "VTEC", SOME POEPLE KNOW A LITTLE AND WONDER HOW IT WORKS, WELL I WILL TELL YOU A STORY MY BROTHER AND I WENT THROUGH AND THEN TELL YOU HOW WE KNEW FULLY ABOUT VTEC, AND HOW U CAN USE IT TO IT FULLEST POTENTIAL, IN WINNING A RACE.

.The Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (VTEC) system solves the age-old trade-off between tuning an engine for high speed power speed torque and responsiveness. Until Honda engineers developed VTEC an engine could have one or the other. But not both. But VTEC has rewritten the rules. Using a unique arrangement of three cam lobes and three corresponding rocker arms for each pair of valves, the VTEC system can alter not just valve lift, but valve timing as well in response to engine load and driver demand. VTEC operates on intake as well as exhaust valves. The crossover point between nominal valve lift and high valve lift occurs at 4400 rpm. As the engine continues to rev beyond that point, another system comes into operation - the dual stage intake manifold. At 5800 rpm, a second intake runner in the dual stage manifold opens to fully exploit the additional breathing potential of VTEC. Thanks to these two complementary systems, the GS-R engine has an almost flat torque curve from 2500 rpm up to 7200 rpm. This is a truly remarkable engine. It has the highest specific output per liter of displacement than any normally aspirated engine on the market. And it also has the highest piston speed of any automobile engine in the world, even faster than the World Championship Honda Formula One engines.

IT WAS EARLY IN THE WEEK AND BLACK CAR WAS FINISHED. MY BORTHER WAS VERY ANXIOUS TO TEST THE NEW VTEC ENGINE THE CAR NOW HOLDS UNDER THE HOOD.

WELL ONE DAY MY BROTHER AND I RAN INTO TOM (OWNER OF THE ZC MOTOR POWERED CIVIC, “RED”) AND WE WERE TALKING SH!T TO HIM, SAYING THAT THE RED CAR IS FAST BUT IT IS TIME TO STEP ASIDE. SO LIKE RACERS WE JUMPED INTO THE CARS, I WAS IN THE BLACK CAR, WITH MY BROTHER DRIVING, AND TOM WAS IN HIS CAR. WE AGREED ON A TRACK “ROAD OF COURSE” AND WE WERE OFF,

DISAPPOINTMENT

WE MOVER OFF AND MY HEAD WAS TURNED ON TOMS CAR ON I NEVER MOVER MY NECK????????????….WHY?, I WAS WONDERING HOW WE WERE NOT PULLING AWAY FROM THE CAR. WELL IT SEEMS, NOOOO, IT WAS THAT THE VTEC WAS NOT CHIPPING IN, THERE FORE THE ENGINE WAS JUST RUNING NORMALLY….WE RAN ABOUT 4 RACES AND TIED ALL WITH THE RED CAR. TOM WAS VERY HAPPY. HE WENT HOME AND CALLED ALL HIS FRENZ, TELLING THEM HOW A VTEC HYBRID COULDN’T BEAT HIM. WELL MY BROTHER AND I WENT HOME DISAPPOINTED, WE SAT AND WONDERED WHY?……. WELL WE THOUGHT THE SWAP WAS DONE PROPERLY, BUT IT SEEMS THAT THE WRONG “ECU” (CARS COMPUTER), AND WIRING WAS WRONG, THEREFORE THE VTEC WAS NEVER USED. WELL MY BROTHER SERACHED AND SERACHED TILL HE GOT THE RIGHT ECU, AND NOW WE WENT ON THE INTERNET AND SAW WHERE THE WIRING WENT WRONG. IT WAS NOT LONG BEFORE THE CAR WAS COMPLETED AGAIN!!!!…..NOW IT WAS TIME TO HEAR THE BLACK DEMON’S VTEC CHIP INTO PLAY.

I KNEW THAT THE STRANGE “GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH” WAS THE VTEC KICKING IN….

WELL HEARING AND FEELING IS TWO DIFFERENT THINGS

WHEN YOU HEAR THAT "GAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH", YOU CAN FEEL THE CAR'S POWER KICKIN IN, AND IT IS LIKE THE CAR JUST GOT UP AND STARTED KICKING ITS WAY DOWN THE ROAD.

WHEN U FEEL THE VTEC CHIP IN, U WILL GRIP THE WHEEL HARDER, U WILL NOT BLINK, AND IF U ARE NOT USED TO FAST CARS, U WILL WET YOUR SELF....VTEC IS NOTHING TO PLAY WITH...

THE ONLY THING THAT WE DIDN'T LIKE IS THAT, THE VTEC CHIPS IN AT A VERY HIGH RPM, (ABOUT 5500 RPM), AND IF ONLY U CAN GET IT TO CHIP IN EARLIER YOU WILL HAVE THE EDGE OVER OTHER CARS.well this is where you use the vtec to its fullest potential

VTEC CONTROLLER

BEFORE WE TOLD YOU THAT THE ECU, AND THE WIRING CAUSED THE VTEC NOT TO CHIP IN. WELL THAT MUST OF HINT YOU THAT "VTEC" IS ELECTRICALLY CONTROLLED

THERE IS A PRODUCT ON THE MARKET, SOMETIMES HARD TO FIND CALLED A "VTEC CONTROLLER", IT IS A SMALL ELECTRICAL DEVICE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO CHANGE THE RMP INWHICH THE VTEC CHIPS IN, HENCE YOU ARE NOW CONTROLING WHEN YOU CALL FOR THE VTEC POWER TO HELP YOU IN RACES. IN THE BLACK CIVIC THE VTEC CONTROLLER IS A DUAL PERFORMANCE ONE, IT ALSO CONTROLS THE FUEL USAGE ON THE CAR.

HOW TO SET THE CONTROLER

OK, SETTING THE VTEC IS IMPORTANT, FIRST YOU WILL HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO SHIFT GOOD, OR WHERE THE RPM GOES WHEN YOU SHIFT. THEN SET THE RPM BELOW THE RPM THAT YOU SHIFT AT,...

R.P.MON VTEC

WHEN YOU START A RACE YOU WILL START IN A NON-VTEC STATE, AND WHEN THE RPM BUILDS UP, VTEC WILL CHIP IN. NOW IF YOU SET IT THAT U CHIP IN FIRST, (NOT TOO LOW), YOU WILL MOVE FASTER IN FIRST GEAR. THEN THE TRICK IS TO STAY INTO VTEC, IN ALL GEARS...

IF THE CONTROLLER IS SET TOO HIGH, THEN WHEN YOU SHIFT, YOU WILL FALL BACK OUT OF VTEC, AND WILL HAVE TO BUILD UP BACK THE RPM, TO GAT BACK INTO VTEC...
