Return
On the night wind I come,
Out of mist and dreams I fly,
From the sea that I call home -
To show the world that by and by
My kind will return.
I journey among the clouds at twilight,
I’ve danced with the distant star;
In my eyes burn an ancient light
To remind many that it’s not far
‘Till my kind will return.
The only sound warning of my coming
Is a silence - that is fleeting -
You hear a soft drumming,
It’s my heart within me beating,
Beating out, till my kind will return.
Does your kind know me?
Do they remember our strength?
Mortals forget what they do not see.
I know inside that at length
My kind will return.
When once more we soar in the sky,
We travel freely about the world,
Our voices are again heard when the wind goes by,
And the world before us has unfurled,
My kind has returned.
