I rode through this corner of the Yukon last summer and since it was out of the range of GBv2, I decided to fly it in FSX to see how well M$ modelled it. I was a bit disappointed. The mesh was rather dull given the country, there were 2 different power lines most of the way (when there's only one on the maps and in real life), and they didn't bother putting in the rivers west of Whitehorse, or Pine Lake and its SPB at Haines Junction. That annoyed me since that's the only place you can get fuel between the AK border and Whitehorse. Fortunately I won't need to make a pit stop, but that was where I had planned to if I needed gas. Anyway, now that I've completely blasted the job Microsoft did in this corner of the world, let's get on with the PIREP.
I was in Carcross yesterday afternoon with my Beaver when I got a call about a job originating in Whitehorse about ferrying some fishermen out to Kluane Lake. Since that's one of the most beautiful lakes you'll ever see, I was more than happy to do it. I was to drop them off at a bump in the road called Silver City and pick them up the next afternoon up the road at Burwash. I scooted on up to Whitehorse, and since I had until tomorrow morning to get ready for this trip that would require me to find something to do for a day (there was noplace to go other than Whitehorse or Haines Junction in the meantime), I shopped around Whitehorse and picked up a book called Suite Francaise and some groceries suitable for camping... including marshmallows. If I had known I was going to be spending two days and a night on Kluane Lake when I left home in Juneau, I would have brought some fishing gear along myself. There's good trout there from what I hear. This job was flown in three legs: Leg One is from Whitehorse (CYXY) to Silver City (CFQ5), Leg Two is from Silver City to Burwash (CYDB), and Leg Three is from Burwash back to Whitehorse. Each is available at the links below. Leg One: Whitehorse to Silver City Leg Two: Silver City to Burwash Leg Three: Burwash to Whitehorse
