My Rabbits

In Alice in Wonderland, Alice followed the rabbit down the rabbit hole and into a world of wonder...

Me? I followed my son who followed the Rabbit. It all started when my son brought home a chubby little black Dutch rabbit over 10 years ago. His sister, Lady Guinever, as we ended up naming this rabbit, soon joined Duke of Knawingham, when my daughter got a rabbit of her own. Many 4-H meetings, lessons on husbandry, breeding, and showing , and many scratches on my arms later has left me with a deeper understanding of these little long eared pets.

I have raised Dutch, Himalayans, Rex, Holland Lops, Mini Rex, Mini Lops, Polish, and an English Spot through the course of this adventure and I realized I've had a love of rabbits since I was small. I use too help with three white French Lops as a kid even.

I now raise mostly Mini Lops and Broken Polish with one pet, Baby Nickie, a black Mini Rex.

So why did I name my rabbitry Briar Patch? I have always liked Brer Rabbit from Disney's Songs of the South. Whenever Brer Fox or Brer Bear tried to nab old Brer Rabbit, he hid in his briar patch were the thorns kept the mean old fox and bear out and kept him nice and safe inside. I wanted my rabbitry to be a safe place for my rabbits.

So my better half's car got moved to the drive way and the garage converted into the rabbit barn. There the rabbits are safe from the harsh winters here and any would be predators. Even our dogs have come to except the rabbits as their "puppies" and eagerly hunt down any varmint that try to get into the barn.

And thus that is how this adventure started. Now go on and choose a link... take a look around.
