The United Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. was founded by Bishop Herman Williams of Orangeburg, SC.
United Church was first started and located in Rowesville, SC in 1972. The pastor and seven members labored faithfully in the eyesight of God for seven years. The building in Rowesville was rented and the pastor desired to have a building of his own for the people of God to worship.
Through prayers and supplications to God, Pastor Herman Williams, his devoted wife Mother Eartha Lee Williams, along with Deacon Ashbia James, Deacon Leon Williams, Sister Minnie Lee James, Sister Gladys Gissentanner, Sister Estella Williams, Sister Sandra Addison, and Sister Shirley Williams, were blessed to move to Orangeburg, SC in 1979, to 462 Bayne Street, our present location.

Mother Eartha Lee Williams was instrumental in securing this building. Having seen it advertised in the newspaper, she proceeded to inform her husband, Pastor Herman Williams, of the possibility of purchasing it. Pastor Williams moved by faith with direction from God and proceeded to inquire information on purchasing the building. The church was then purchased from the Church of the Nazarene in 1979. The United Church family worked faithfully together to pay the mortgage and successfully paid it in November 1984.
After being established in this building, God began to bless and sent many souls to be saved, many of which were and are young people. One of the first to come was Brother Leroy Bovian; others came after finding refuge and strength. |
Over the course of several years, Bishop Herman Williams saw God's blessings bestowed upon him from a small building in the town of Rowesville with seven members to a beautiful building located at 462 Bayne Street with over 60 members today. Bishop Williams proved himself faithful by waiting on the promises of God and moving as God gave direction.
The church continues to be beautiful even to this day. Since the purchase of the building, a new roof has been placed on the church, bathrooms have been renovated, flowers beautify the sanctuary, the inside of the sanctuary has been expanded, the church house mortgage has been paid, the parking lot across the street has been purchased, paved, and fenced in, new pews grace the sanctuary, and a copier machine has been purchased, along with various office equipment. All of these things and more have been accomplished under the leadership of our founder, Bishop Herman Williams, a man full of love and faith with a mind to do the Lord's work.
We praise God for our founder, a man who was chosen of God to do His work, full of love, faith, wisdom, mercy, and compassion, a man who proved himself to God to be worthy of His stewardship.
United means "unity" and we believe that the church does symbolize unity and strength. We know that "where there is no vision, the people perish" (Prov. 29:18), and we thank God that through the years, Bishop Williams fainted not, nor drew back; instead he went forward, standing on the promises of God and achieved that which God had in store for him.
