Below is a chart of the basic percentages that your wedding budget will consist of.  If something in your budget is more important to you, then increase that percentage and decrease something that is not as significant.  Just know that your reception is going to be the largest part of your budget and you should not skimp on your reception.

You should determine your budget before you start to shop for anything.  Don't break the bank!  As both of your parents (separately) what, if anything, they can contribute.  A lot of couples make the mistake of thinking that their parents can afford to pay for an extravagant wedding.  My advice to all couples is don't EXPECT anything from anyone.  This way you can have things the way you want and not what others want.
