Holiday Cheer With Zorro All Year
POEMS
Dear Zorro,
I'm sitting under the Christmas tree
Making out my wish list you see
I started thinking about you
Wondering if you have much to do.
What are California Christmases like?
Are they full of fun and play,
Do you wish for snow
On Christmas Eve day?
Do you find the perfect tree
To adorn with candlelight
Or are you too busy
Rescuing someone at that night?
Are you planning a grand fiesta
For all your closest friends
Garcia and Reyes will fill themselves full
And make sure to empty the punch bowl.
Will any carolers come to sing
Outside the hacienda walls
Can you still hear them
Inside the secret passages and all?
I am full of questions
As you can see
But my most important question
Is yet to be.
For this year, a letter
To Santa won't do,
He can't deliver.
Because all I want for Christmas is you.
But if you can't make it on Christmas
How about New Year's Eve?
We could take in the sights
And be together at midnight. ;-)
From your devoted fan,
Erin

TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS, ZORRO STYLE!
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the hacienda,
Only one creature was stirring, ready for adventure
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that presents soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.
Monasterio in his longjohns, and Garcia in his cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
The Capitan sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window he flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the crest of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below
When, what to his startling eyes should appear,
But El Zorro on horseback, and soldiers showing fear.
Sword in his hand, so lively and quick,
The soldiers defeated, one fell with a kick.
Monasterio grabbed his sword and outside he came,
Then he stopped, and shouted, and called him by name,
"El Zorro, you wont escape me this time!"
But the Fox turned around and started to climb
To the top of the roof! To the top of the wall!
Zorro escaped from the troops one and all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,
He wouldn't let all the little children down,
He ran along the wall and jumped to the ground.
And then, in a twinkling, Zorro entered the room
No candles were lit in the darkness and gloom.
He heard the soldiers coming, and then turned around,
Grabbed the sack full of toys, left without a sound.
He was dressed all in black, from his head to his boot,
And guided his horse Tornado along a new route;
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
In the darkness of night he continued on track.
His eyes, how they twinkled! His smile, how merry!
The wind against his face, his nose like a cherry!
On this cold December night it continued to snow,
The heavens above seemed to smile on the scene below;
The children were asleep, so the time had come,
Like Santa Claus he visited them one by one.
Their prayers would be answered, thank the Lord,
Being the people's hero had its own reward.
He was light on his feet, and with sack in hand
Entered each place just as he had planned.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
The boys and girls knew they had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
The night was over, the job just about done
It was time to return home before the rising sun.
He sprang to his horse, carved a "Z" in the sky
While a bolt of lighning struck the ground nearby.
The kids heard him exclaim, as he rode out of sight,
"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
