DOUBLE TROUBLE FOR ZORRO

I never tire of Bernardo trying to explain to Diego that Monastario plans to destroy Zorro. The switching of the ladders is hilarious as is Sgt. Garcia asking which of the two Zorros is theirs. Zorro has one of his brilliant smiles just before Monastario and he clash swords.

I totally agree. Especially the part where Garcia walks to the back of the tavern and catches Zorro and Bernardo getting the ladders ready. "You're late. You should have already been in there. Let me help you with the ladder." The look on Zorro and Bernardo's faces is wonderful. And, yes, that ladder routine is the best of slapstick, but with that Zorro sophistication rolled in. Norm Foster knew exactly how to get the best out of his actors.

(The entire scene with the ladder in back of the tavern is fun to watch. Bernardo switches the ladder from window to window when the fake Zorro comes out onto the balcony to escape after robbing the people in the tavern. "Zorro" steps over the balcony where he is sure he left the ladder, only to find it gone. Then goes to the other balcony where the ladder is, and it's gone again. Bernardo watches him go back and forth, giggling at "Zorro's" confusion.)
