Demon Flowers
- Kuruizaki no Hana -

Story Summary
Demon Flowers is about a demon named Ushitora, a half-breed god/human Masato, and an orphan girl named Nao all living together happily. Demons usually hunt down human/god half-breeds (called kuruizaki no hana) to consume their flesh and gain their power, which is just what Ushitora used to do, but on one mission where he killed a young half-breed girl, her young brother Masato won him over with his naive kindness and Ushitora decided to stop hunting kuruizaki no hana and settle down with Masato. Now years later, Ushitora, Masato, and Nao live on the run, moving every few months, but Masato and Nao don't really know why. Ushitora is trying to hide from demons who would want to eat Masato, and it seems impossible that they can hide forever.

My Opinion
I adore Mizuki Hakase's art style ever since I laid eyes on The Demon Ororon, but the style in Demon Flowers is different. Characters have sharper faces, more exaggerated long bodies (didn't think they could get any longer), and strange hair. I think I like her slightly older style better, like in Ororon and Baku. Volume 1 of Demon Flowers introduces a lot that will hopefully turn into a great story (not to say volume 1 isn't enjoyable). Ushitora is hiding the fact that he killed Masato's only family from him, Masato is discovering his supernatural powers, and demons from Ushitora's past are finally coming back for him and Masato. If Demon Flowers turns out to be as intense, emotional, and riveting as Ororon, then I've got another favorite on my hands.

News
10/14/2009 - Demon Flowers vol. 5 was set to be released April 7th, 2009, but has yet to hit the streets. I have no idea why it wasn't released on schedule, but I hope it comes out soon.
