The Demon Ororon
- Akuma no Ororon -

Story Summary
A story about a 15-year-old girl, Chiaki, who lives alone. She has a strange power that allows her to see ghosts and spirits, and she soon finds that her powers aren't limited to just that. One day she rescues an injured man from the street, and he tells her that he is the lord of all demons. He grants her one wish to thank her for saving him, and she wishes for him to always stay with her. The story becomes complicated when the demon, Ororon, tells her that she is a descendant of an angel. Ororon quickly falls in love with Chiaki, but Chiaki can't stand how he slaughters demons and angels alike when they threaten his life. Soon friends and enemies of Ororon come up from Hell, and Ororon's life is put in jeopardy. All the violence and fighting takes it's toll on Chiaki and the others, and Ororon stays as strong as he can to fight off his enemies.

My Opinion
The Demon Ororon is one of my favorite manga stories. It's emotional and intense, and all you want is for Chiaki and Ororon to be able to understand each other, but they are both so different. Mizuki's art could be seen as strange, but I think its beautiful. This story is violent and tragic, with brief moments of sweetness. An amazing story.

News
There is a sequel to The Demon Ororon, called Empire of Midnight (Mayonaka no Teikoku). It began serialization in Wings (a Japanese manga magazine) starting in April 2001, and ran in September, October, and December. I can't find a graphic novel of it in Japanese anywhere. Makes me wonder if the series is incomplete or never made it to a graphic novel format. I once heard news that Empire of Midnight is yet to be completed by Hakase, but who knows if thats correct. I'm desperate to just get a look at it, since Ororon is one of my favorite manga stories, but for me, its been impossible to find any information on Empire of Midnight.
