X (The Movie): Review

I bought the X movie a couple days ago. Why? Well, I was looking through my old Animerica magazines and I saw one that had the cover dedicated to the X movie. I read the article because X is by CLAMP (who made Magic Knight Rayearth and Card Captor Sakura, which I am very fond of both). The plot sounded very cool and so I decided I would buy it, since it's only one movie.

I soon found out by looking on the back of the movie that it was rated R, which I figured was just for violence. I popped in the tape this afternoon and the beginning of the movie was slow. I was afraid the whole movie would be slow, but it picked up once the fighting started. It's so cool, the characters fight using magic and weapons, like swords. I can say that this movie did not bore me! The plot was good and very sad.

When I saw that this movie was rated R (R for violence, gore, and some nudity) I wondered why. Now I know that's the rating it needs. There was lots of blood, violence, and death. There was also one scene of a nude woman, but it wasn't too long. I usually don't like such violence, but it's necessary in this movie to fit with the plot. There were gaping wounds, severed limbs, and even decapitations. I am very squeamish to blood (yes, even in anime), but I never had to turn away.

This movie is very emotional. I remember a few weeks back I was really in the mood for some sad anime and now I have found it. I won't give away a lot of the plot, but there was a lot of sad scenes, always related with the death of characters. Many parts made me whimper and came close to bringing me to tears; and just when I thought I would make it through the movie without crying, the end came, and the tears began to flow as I mumbled, "It's not fair." *sigh* This is the perfect movie to stir your emotions!

Even though this movie started out slow, I am so glad I bought it. One thing that has stuck with me about this movie is the flower petals. Flower petals are shown a lot in this movie and it's beautiful. Now whenever I see flower petals falling from the tree in my yard, I have to pick one up and Kotori comes to mind. Once again CLAMP has failed to disappoint me!
