THE LATEST IN UNICO NEWS I report on what I can find out about! Visit here to read up on new rumors and information all about Unico!
July 31, 2003: WHOOPS! Well, I should have checked first, but the old and original Unico mailing list IS in use! And I was just made the new owner of it! Talk about shock! I guess someone saw my new updates and/or saw I had made the new list, so figuring that I'd maintain the Unico mailing list, they made me owner...I guess that's why! Well, go join the old list if you haven't, or post on it! And I'll be deleting the new one I just made, since me being the owner of the old list has now made it defunct. July 27, 2003 The latest info! About the Unico 4th movie! Well, the new better English version of the site has been up for awhile now, but here's the newest info about this mystery movie!
ENGLISH TITLE: Saving our Fragile Earth: UNICO Special Chapter
CHARACTER NAMES:
MOVIE SUMMARY AND OTHER INFORMATION (edited by myself for obvious translation mistakes): Tezuka Osamu World, located in the Kyoto Station Building, features a 300-inch (?) theater that shows his original short animated films. One piece capturing the essence of his most famous work, and another that depicts historical episodes of Kyoto, are shown as a double feature with "The Phoenix" as narrator. This is the fourth original animated piece for the Tezuka Osamu Animation theater that takes up Tezuka Osamu's message of "Saving our Fragile Earth" as its theme, and together with Unico's adventures commemorates the theater's first anniversary. Unico, a unicorn's child, has dropped down from heaven. During his journey on with the West Wind, he meets Tsubasa, a tree boy who can speak. The Earth has become totally ruined to the extent that no creature can live there, because humans have drained it of all resources and destroyed the environment. Unico and Tsubasa go on a journey to find a way to make the Earth inhabitable again. They finally meet the Sphinx and the "time fairy" at the end of their hard journey. They decide to go back to the past and prevent humans from taking the wrong path. However, they can stay in the past for only five minutes. Will they be able to alter the future of the Earth in such a short time? Their adventures to restore the Earth begins...
OOOooo! This is an interesting sounding Unico epic, completely melded into Tezuka's Life Theme story with the Phoenix, like I thought it was a year or so ago. I guessed right! Go, me! Sounds like it is a cross between a movie and an ova, and possibly only shown in that theater (at least at first!). If you want credits of this movie or want to see the original translation of the movie summary, check out Tezuka Osamu @ World! Or, if you want the specific address to the page about this movie, click here!
Now for the rest of the news! Since the Unico internet community has gone dead, I thought it was high time I really updated and freshened up the site. More importantly however, is the new Unico mailing list at Yahoo, called Unico Star. I myself maintain it, and while this list may not get many posts, don't you worry about me not maintaining and checking on it! You may not know it, but even though this site looks like it isn't updated often, I do check up on it and fix up things, even if I don't note about it in my updates! I plan to do the same for this new mailing list! Please feel free to join it!

December 10th, 2001:
I got the list of the voice actors and some of the
people who worked on the 4th film. It wasn't as hard
as I thought it would be! If anybody wants to know who
they are please email me. I recognized some of the
voice actors are the same ones who worked on the
Japanese version of Sailor Moon! (Artemis=Wing and
Sailor Jupiter=Goddess), or at least they have the
exact same name.
I use the online dictionary at
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/wwwjdic.html to
help with some of the translations of kanji. It is the
only online dictionary that I know of that can
translate names!! A friend (Guido) and I own the
software program that helps translate the paragraph.
To help translate the website, I use
www.worldlingo.com it doesn't do a very good job, but
at least it is better than nothing!
December 7th, 2001:
I was looking up the title of the fourth movie at a
japanese bookstore, this has been a manga back in
1989/04!! The isbn number is 4334051618. It has been
redone in 1996/09. Its isbn number is 4334722881. I am
going to try to order it to see what it looks like,
and if it is the same thing. We are getting closer to
solving this mystery! ^_~ Oh and by the way the
romanji for this manga is "garasu no chikyuu o sukue
nijyuuisseiki no kimitachi e" and it is by Osamu
Tezuka. It is the exact title that is on the website
so it has to be the same thing.
Later the same day...^_^
There is also a book about Osamu Tezuka with the same
name "Save the Glass earth" so it might not be the
movie. :( But the book is a record of the final
remarks of Osamu Tezuka who passed away in 1989. From
what I read about the book the last chapter describes
"his sincere hopes for children of the future, who
will soon live seeing Earth from space, to promote
peace on Earth." Maybe the film was done in his honor?
November 30th, 2001:
I am on the Unico mailing list that is runned by
mappyman, and I believe I have a few things that might
help. This unico film looks definantely like another
Unico movie, called "Rescue the Earth of the Glass" -
Unico Special Compilation. The tree man is called
Wing? The lady with the long blonde hair is a goddess,
the astro boy look alike is a Time Spirit, the mermaid
is a water spirit. Oh yeah and the tan-skinned blonde
is the Sphinx. (I remember seeing her in the Unico
manga! But i thought she died in the manga.) I haven't
looked at the plot very much yet, it is very hard work
translating! :( But I will help the best I can!! I can
translate kanji pretty good, I have problems with
grammer of japanese language.
I hope I was of some help!!
October 30th, 2001
translating from that site is going to take a little time but so far my
friend and i gathered...
*the title is "The Glass Earth (something)"
so far so good eh? ^_^
Look at what I found out about! Did anyone else know about this?
Closing Words I don't know very much about this movie at all yet. Even when the English version about this movie is released at Tezuka Osamu @ World, the translation from Japanese to English stinks. But when it does, I maybe able to piece together a summary about it and get its title. Till then, we'll have to keep wondering!
You can find out what I know about each of the characters from this movie by resting your mouse icon on the pictures of the characters at left.
NEATO!
If you want to download a 19 second movie clip of this Unico movie, go to the 21st movie listed in theater section of Anime Station of Tezuka Osamu @ World. Now mind the fact that there isn't an English version of the Anime Station yet, so you'll have to look through Japanese lettering.
If you can provide anymore info about Unico, email me! Of course the best way to get in on a Unico conversation on the net however is to join the Unico Mailing List! (Maintained by yours truly!)
