Ashitaka is a young warrior from a small clan of people. One day he battles with a demon and gets left with a curse. Soon the curse will overtake him, and it will take his life. Ashitaka leaves his clan and goes west to try and find an answer for his suffering. He comes upon an iron town, ultimately run by ladies, and he befriends them. Then he learns of the Princess Mononoke, a woman brought up by wolves who wants the iron town destroyed and the people killed. Ashitaka comes to know her as well, but soon a war rages between the humans and the Gods of the forest, and Ashitaka must choose. Will he side with the iron town or with the forest? And how can he save both sides when he can't even save himself?
Princess Mononoke is a personal favorite (in fact, it's one of my favorite movies of all time, both animated and live action), and like all of Hayao Miyazaki's works, I can't recommend it enough.
