Born April 6th 2004

B-G Dog ID = 23428

Brando was dx-ed in May 2011 with Histiocytic Sarcoma (Disseminated)

He presented with a 2 cm tumor in the lung , initial pathology suggested Spindle Cell Sarcinoma, but was sent to Dr Peter Moore at Davis for more testing and confirmed as HS

Treatment was excision of half a lung lobe (clean margins) and chemo (CCNU/Lomustine)

Regarding the CCNU - Brando also has IBD, and the CCNU made him very sick. We did two doses of it, and for the second we added in a lot of extra meds to help offset the side effects, but to no avail. The second dose made him sicker than the first, so we decided to discontinue it.

Update August 8th 2013 - All is fine here. Brando is doing well, though his age is showing. He turned 9 last April, and while the heart and mind are still willing and active, the body has slowed down some. I am just thrilled he lived long enough to be an old dog! He had a lovely time at our Nat'l Specialty last May, and joined four other veterans in team obedience.

We had a bit of a health scare with Brando in late May - chest films showed a mass on his right thoracic wall. We checked it again in June, and it was still there but had not changed. If anything, it looked a bit more diffuse. But, he was not feeling well and was having issues with vasculitis - all four legs were swollen. We did an ultrasound of all organs and found NOTHING. We went on a cancer hunt figuring the histio must have returned and spread, but there was nothing to be found other than the mass on his chest. And then a few days later the vasculitis disappeared and he started feeling fine! Appetite and energy returned, and it was like nothing had happened. We repeated the chest films in July and the mass was gone. Totally and completely gone. I went from getting ready to put him down to having him back to normal with no major issues. Brando has become the dog who cried wolf. :-) He is a completely mystery! But he is feeling fine and quite content these days so I just count my blessings.
