Chibi
Style Duo
Chibi style is usually used in dipicting extreme emotions, very small pictures, doujinshi (fan comics), and doodling! SD/Super Deformed/Chibi style is basically a charicature of the character...in a very small size. There are many different ways to approach drawing chibi. Just lemme give a few tips.
Tips: The most important features should be emphasized in chibi-style. Eyes, hair, and clothes are some defining characteristics. Take a look at my example below. On the left is a screen shot of Duo. The right is a super deformed version. The key is to simplify. |
There you see? Same pose...but
simplified and shorter. ;) No fingers either. ;) Just mittens
with "hints" of fingers.
Styles: There's no wrong way to do a chibi...except drawing the char. for real. You can emphasize any feature you want. Make them as detailed as you like. I have pictured above Duo done to mimic the style in the DomonW comics (found in the back of the manga). The center one was done to illustrate wispy hair style. The kitty is to show that all you *really* need is to get the hair down. ;)
Proportions: Chibi is Japanese for "Child". Therefore, in SD/Chibi style, the head will be larger than the body. Also, keep the features pretty close together and the eyes should be large. (Large eyes=innocence).
If you want to see steps for how I sometimes make my chibi/SD, go to Chibi Heero Tutorial. I'm just putting different examples for this one...for now. ;)
