One of the biggest things that you'll notice about Cowboy Bebop is it's use of technology. From communication to interstellar transportation, the year of 2071 is highly advanced. Here is a look at some of the commonly seen technology in the series.
COMMUNICATION
DEVICE
This is seen rather often throughout hte series as a means for Spike, Faye, Jet
and Ed to keep in touch with each other. There are two versions of this: a handheld and a net version. The handheld
(at left) is about the size of a cassette tape walkman and has a small screen, along with about 12 buttons on it.
The net version is like a webcast, displaying on the person's computer.
MONO CPU
There are several forms of transportation, most powered by a Mono CPU(at right).
This device proviedes control over transportation by providing an interface for thrust, weaponry, etc. Long story
short, it's windows for your starship.
HYPERGATES
These
are used for excessive traveling in space from planet to planet. Operated by gateworkers, these "portals"
open up long paths in hyperspace. Should the gate be closed before the ship exits, they will be trapped in hyperspace
forever, visible, but in a seperate dimension, as seen in Session 4. These are not, however, completely reliable
and 100% safe, as several episodes revolve around Gate Accidents, most notably Faye's past.
SHIPS
There are 4 main ships everyone wants to know about. One thing you should notice is how each ship (excluding the Bebop) serve as a general representation of it's pilots personality (the Hammerhead is slow and unarmed, but incredibly strong; the Swordfish II carries minimal weaponry and is best used at high speeds, etc.). The Bebop could fall in the category of describing the relationship between Spike, Jet, and Faye though: old, broken, and barely holding together, though usually there when you need it.
THE
BEBOP
This is truly Jet's pride and joy. Originally an old fishing boat, Jet and Spike purchased this and had it upgraded for space travel shortly after purchasing it, then began to set out into the world of bounty hunting, dubbing their ship "Bebop" because of their love for jazz music. The ship has no weapons and travels very slowly.
SWORDFISH II
Originally
an old Mono Racer, Spike received his ship, the Swordfish II, from his old friend named Doohan 10 years prior to
the series, around the time he first joined the Syndicate. The ship's weapons are very weak and few in number,
but Spike more than compensates with speed and surprise, liking to catch his enemy's from behind. The Swordfish
II has an energy cannon and machine guns.
RED TAIL
Faye's
zipjet, the Red Tail, is well balenced in speed and hidden tricks. It is never really revealed how she received
it, though one can assume she's still paying for it. It has a variety of weapons and can be operated via the bracelet
she wears.
HAMMERHEAD
Jet's
personal transportation, the Hammerhead, is slow, bulky, and has no weapons. However, he loves it just as much
as he does the Bebop, and is not afraid to take it into battle.
That means "I wanna go back to the main page!"
