The episode commences with various landscape scenerio and Kagome's voice complaining about no hot baths being available. She is standing naked in water up to her tailbone with her backside to us and shivering. She complains about the water being cold and immerses herself in more to just about chest level. Kaede is seated by a campfire on shore, telling her not to force herself to stay in. Kagome replies that she is covered in all kinds of filth and must bathe. Having said that, Kagome dives underwater. Kaede just sighs, and up in a tree on a cliff behind her is Inu Yasha, watching.
Underwater, Kagome swims along, recapping everything that has occurred so far. A new flashback shows Kagome holding up and staring at the tiny Shikon fragment in her hand. Offscreen, Inu Yasha is heard demanding to know how the hell it happened. Kaede tells him to stop his barking, but he persists. Kaede explains that Kagome's enchanted arrow (it was charged with miko power) destroyed both the crow demon and the jewel. She goes on to explain that the shards went all over the place, and that even a tiny shard could give monsters alot of power. Kagome asks if it is her fault, and mentally answers her own question.
Kaede informs Kagome and Inu Yasha that they will have to team up and retrieve the Shikon shards together. Both inquire if she's really serious about that, and Inu Yasha reminds her that he himself is one of those monsters wanting the jewel. Kaede just sighs, saying that it cannot be helped. Mentally, Kagome cries out that she just wants to go home.
The flashback ends, and we see Kagome swimming again. She thinks she has no power and that Inu Yasha is mean to her. She surfaces and heads toward the shore when she notices Inu Yasha on the cliff edge staring at her. Mortified, she screams and re-immerses herself in the water as she yells for him to SIT! The rosary glows and heaves Inu Yasha off the cliff with a horrendous crash.
Kaede looks back over her shoulder at him, a little surprised that he had been there. Inu Yasha curses and tries pulling the rosary off, having forgotten that it was there. Kagome is getting dressed behind a bush and calls him a pervert for spying on her. Inu Yasha just calls her stupid, starting to explain himself when Kaede finishes his sentence, saying that she knew he was after the Shikon fragment she had been holding. Inu Yasha sits up, facing away from them, and says "so you knew, huh?" Kaede sighs and calls him troublesome and explains again that he and Kagome will have to work together to recover the jewel shards.
Inu Yasha shrugs off her nagging until Kagome approaches, asking if he really hates her that much. Now dressed in a miko's clothes, Inu Yasha suddenly shuts up. In a very brief flashback, we see Kikyou, sitting alone in a grassy field. All he can do is stare at Kagome, numbstruck by her resemblence to the dead girl.
Kagome is next to Kaede, shaking her school uniform dry a bit. Kaede looks over her shoulder at him and Inu Yasha growls, edging away when the old woman asks what that angry look on his face is all about. Kagome watches him with the same ticked-off expression.
The scene changes to a dark place with a faint red glow in the background. The sillouette of a girl about Kagome's age with a sword strapped to her waist gets up and sits on her knees, acknowledging the re-emergence of the Shikon Jewel. A closer view, though her face is mostly obscured, shows her pick up a skull and a small red comb. Remarking that 'it' will be fun, she brushes the skull's tuft of hair and laughs.
Back by the water's edge, a woman carrying a child on her back approaches looking for Kaede. The scene skips to Kaede getting up and following the woman back to the village. Before she goes, she tells Inu Yasha and Kagome not to fight.
Inu Yasha and Kagome are standing on each side of the campfire. All is quiet until Inu Yasha pips up.
Inu Yasha: Hey
Kagome: What?
Inu Yasha: ...take it off.
A view of birds fleeing from the trees is seen as a loud TWOMP! and the sound of Inu Yasha cursing is heard. The next scene shows Inu Yasha holding his head, now sporting a huge lump, and Kagome holding the good-sized rock she used to inflict it. Inu Yasha furiously asks her why she did that, and she responds that he was being a pervert. Even more pissed-off, Inu Yasha points to her drying clothes, explaining that he wasn't telling her to get naked, but to just change back into her weird clothes. Kagome retorts by asking if it's because she resembles Kikyou in the miko clothes. At first, Inu Yasha is at a loss for words, but then turns his nose up and off to the side, saying that that has nothing to do with Kagome. In her mind, Kagome remarks that he is as immature as a junior-high school kid.
Changing the subject, Kagome reminds him that if he is not nicer to her, they'll never be able to work together. Inu Yasha mutters back that he can find the jewel shards alone. Even more upset, Kagome asks if he's really capable of doing so. Inu Yasha's back is turned to her as she retrieves her clothes from the rack they were drying on. (Inu Yasha tries to look like he's not paying attention, but we can tell by his twitching ears.) He finally notices her and asks where she is going. Kagome states that she is going home and says goodbye. Not having expected that answer, he immediately gets up and tells her to hold on. She reminds him that her name is Kagome, not 'hey.' He insists on her waiting (again without using her name) and she gives a similar response as she walks away.
Inu Yasha persists, and Kagome tells him to just give up trying to stop her. He catches up to her and tells her to give him the Shikon shard before she goes. Kagome pulls out the tiny pouch containing it, asking if that is what he is referring to. After a moment she tells him to SIT! As expected, down he goes, cursing. Over her shoulder, Kagome tells him she'll keep the shard herself. In her mind, she fumes, mostly because Inu Yasha refuses to call her by name.
Back in the village, Kaede and the woman with the child enter the woman's house where a teenage girl is lying unconscious on the floor. Kaede is puzzled by the woman's explanation that the girl just suddenly fell ill. As she approaches the girl, Kaede suddenly senses something and orders the woman to get back. The girl on the floor suddenly gets up and hovers in the air, still unconscious. A closer look shows hairs wrapped around the girl's wrists and fingers like strings on a puppet. A cleaver on the floor stirs to life and flies into the girl's hand. The unconscious girl then weilds it toward Kaede and the woman.
The scene changes to a view of the well and light footsteps are heard. Kagome approaches and pauses, staring at the well and remembering that it was through it that she came the the fuedal era. Peeking in, she sees various skeletal remains at the bottom and is reminded of Kaede's explanation of its power--that the bones of monsters are disposed of into it and that after a few days, the bones mysteriously disappear. Kagome drops her school shirt and kneels by the well, now too afraid to jump in.
Kagome resolves to sit back against the well and look around her. As she watches and wonders what to do, she sees something glint in the sunlight and slice a falling leaf perfectly in two. Puzzled, she stands up, only to have something cut her on the cheek. Looking again, she sees that the air around her is somewhat netted with hairs pulled taut. A female voice seems amused that Kagome can see the 'Cage of the Comb.' Kagome looks up to see the girl who had been brushing a skull's hair standing perfectly at ease on a single strand. There are multiple strings extending from her fingers. The girl then remarks that being able to see the hairs will not be enough to save her. Kagome demands the girl's name, and the girl just laughs.
Elsewhere, Inu Yasha is seen running, jumping, and flying through the air. He recalls Kagome telling him that she is going home and mentally remarks that he doesn't need her assistance. Returning to the village, he is greeted by the village girls, all floating unconcious with various tools in their hands. Inu Yasha stops and asks what they want. The women raise their weapons, and Inu Yasha rears back, amused that they would want a fight with him.
Back by the well, the girl on the strings pulls on some tied to one hand while introducing herself to Kagome as Sakasagami no Yura (Yura of the Hair). She tells Kagome that it isn't important to remember her name since she is going to kill Kagome in a moment anyhow. She unleashes some hair at Kagome, who flinches as the hairs slash and snag at her clothing. Yura pulls on the strings and easily pulls the little bag with the Shikon fragment in it into her grasp. Finding only the tiny fragment inside, Yura demands to know where the rest of the jewel is. Kagome tells her to give it back, and Yura only tells her to answer her question. When Kagome replies that she doesn't know, Yura tells her that if that is the case, Kagome can die now. She draws her sword and lunges at Kagome.
Kagome dodges just as Yura takes a swipe at her, but in doing so, she loses her balance and falls backwards into the well. Yura throws her sword down the well at her, but the blade doesn't hit anything. Kagome is gone, leaving only her school shirt and a puzzled Yura behind.
Back in the village, Inu Yasha is poised to attack, but is confused by the situation with the village women and asks if they finally decided to try getting rid of him. Just as he is about to attack them, Kaede's voice orders him not to. Inu Yasha spots Kaede crawling on the ground in pain with a serious wound on her shoulder. Needless to say, Inu Yasha is very confused and hops over to her, asking why she's covered in blood. A bit sarcastic, Kaede asks if that all he could possibly have said.
"Don't hurt them!?" Inu Yasha utters incredulously. "They are trying to kill me!"
Kaede explains that the women are being controlled by someone else. Suddenly, she asks where Kagome is, and Inu Yasha tells her that she went 'home.' Kaede again tells him not to hurt the village girls and that he has to eliminate the person controlling them. The girls attack him, and Inu Yasha is just able to move out of the way. Kaede tells Inu Yasha to cut the hair manipulating the women. Unfortunately, Inu Yasha can't see the hair, and is forced to strike blindly.
The women surround him and trap him in a net of hair. The scene briefly switches to Yura manipulating the hair and, therefore, the girls from a tree branch somewhere. Getting an idea, Inu Yasha starts to run and pull on the string, thinking that by doing so, the person using them will have to get dragged out. Yura catches onto his plan quickly and laxes the hair, causing Inu Yasha to fall. Creating a cat's cradle on her fingers, Yura forces Inu Yasha up against a tree. Yura tightens the strings as Inu Yasha struggles, but a sharp tug on the hanyou's part causes the hair to slice through the tree instead of his flesh. Yura is aware of this, but isn't detered.
Inu Yasha takes a moment to catch his breath after nearly having been choked. Kaede says that if he had been a normal human, he would have been beheaded.
Now, Yura is using the village men as well, and Kaede tells Inu Yasha to leave the situation to her. Inu Yasha is in the middle of insulting her when Kaede drops to the ground in pain. Cursing, Inu Yasha realizes he has no other choices.
In her forest perch, Yura is pulling back the laxed hair when she comes across a shiny silver one. She remarks how beautiful it is. Not far away, we see a familiar hanyou's silvery hair flowing in the wind as he carries Kaede off to someplace safer. Kaede warns him to watch out for the nets of hair, but as soon as he brushes them with any part of his body, the hairs snap away harmlessly.
Yura is now swinging by her hairs Tarzan-style, remarking how fun and stubborn the owner of the silver hair is. She's off to get that beautiful silvery hair for herself.
In a secluded place in the woods, Inu Yasha is talking to Kaede. He asks if she can see the hair, and she weakly nods her reply. He then asks where the end of the hair is, and she tells him not to ask such an impossible question. With her current state, Kaede tells Inu Yasha to go fetch Kagome, as Kagome is capable of seeing the hair as well. Kaede then seemingly dies.
The scene changes to an overview of... modern-day Tokyo? We see Kagome lying unconscious in a dark place. She wakes up and remembers that she is in the well. Just then, she hears a very familiar voice--Grandpa's voice--and he's rambling that they already checked in the well multiple times. Souta's voice then replies that he saw Kagome fall in, and both appear at the mouth of the well with a flashlight. Just then, they spot her, and Kagome is too shocked and relieved to utter anything other than their names.
Out of the well, Kagome gazes out over the city, amazed to be back home. Grandpa asks worriedly where she has been for the past 3 days. Souta asks why she is wearing miko clothes. Realizing at last that it all was not just a dream, she turns around and breaks down sobbing in Grandpa's arms. Grandpa is confused, but comforts her all the same.
Back in the fuedal era, Inu Yasha is found digging a shallow hole like a dog. (Very funny if you think about it!) He stops and turns to Kaede, telling her that this is the best that he can do for her. He starts to bury her in the hole when she wakes up and tells him she isn't dead yet. Inu Yasha adds some moss onto the pile (obviously not on her face) and tells her it's just to hide her until things are safe. He teasingly adds in that he will come back later and dig her out if he remembers. Kaede warns him not to forget to return. When he gets up to leave without saying anything, she orders him not to forget and he grudgingly agrees.
Inu Yasha runs off to look for Kagome, wondering where she could possibly be at a time like this. The next shot we see is of Kagome relaxing in a hot bath. As Inu Yasha is running, a huge wad of hair is slithering after him. Manipulating the hairs on her fingers, Yura says that wherever he goes, she will find him. As Kagome is detangling her hair, she simply remarks how good she feels.
