Summary: The first round of the Yami no Game had began, and Yami won. (of course) But, as the authoress, I cannot allow victory to come that easily to the main character! Yami will face challenges he has never encountered. Guess what…Kaiba’s gonna show up this time. What will happen, eh? I sense something bad coming…

YC: Yeehaa!! We still have another week to go before our school reopens!! *celebrates* Anyway, enjoy the fic for now, since Kyokou Geemu won’t be up that fast…sketches of Kamira and Kamirah should be up soon. ^_^ Getting the scanner this week!! Look out for it!!
C: Yep, but…we still have test papers. If we get bad marks, maybe Oka-chan will ban us from the computer forever, aibou!
YC: Uh…that’s SOMETHING to worry about… oh god. At home, I have to bear with a moronic brat of a cousin brother, and its killing me. Anyway, read on.

Disclaimer: (DUH) Yugioh is _not_ owned by me, its characters aren’t owned by me (except Kamira and Kamirah, duh!) and Makira belongs to *blinkblink*, the owner of the Pillar of Salt and Shadows of Happiness fic. ^_^ Whatever…the idea of Yugioh isn’t mine, and so forth and so forth. Except – Whispers from the Past is mine!! All mine!!! *Yells as her still sane aibou drags her off the com*

Yami = Yami no Yugi
Bakura = Yami Bakura. I will call the Hikari Bakura as Ryou. OK? Yami Bakura’s just TOO long to type.

Yami awoke to the sound of voices around him. His arm … it was hurting badly. He winced. His vision was foggy…

Sakhore was looking down at him from above, a very concerned look upon his face. He was…in his room. The Pharaoh’s chamber.

“Sa-sa…khore…” Yami managed weakly, trying to sit up. But as he did so, a fleeting pain shot through his left shoulder, and he had to lie down again.

“Ah, it is good to see you awake, sire.” Sakhore bowed before the young Pharaoh. “We thought…we thought you were…”

“Dead?” Yami asked sarcastically, a smirk touching his lips. Even that small move required him to use a good deal of his energy, and he laid his head back on the pillow.

“Well, we did think so at first. After all…you were found with a great deal of blood on the floor. We feared the worst, sire.”

Yami sighed. ‘Of course.’ Then something Sakhore had said fully roused him. “Sakhore – did you say ‘we’?”

Sakhore looked surprised. “Why, of course I mean me and her highness Kamirah. She was the first to come and tell me about your condition.”

Yami frowned. “She was the one who inflicted such damage upon me. Instruct guards to capture and lock her up immediately. She is a dangerous little…” he struggled to find a bad yet decent word to describe her, “witch, if you might say.”

Sakhore looked horrified. “But she can’t be! She’s your fiancée…” he shut up as Yami’s murderous red eyes lingered upon him with a look that quite clearly said, “Do you know what’s the punishment that follows if you don’t follow my orders?”

Sakhore knew what to expect from that.

He cleared his throat, and lowered his voice to a bare whisper. “Your majesty – if we lock her up, then…” he shook his head in disapproval. “She’s the princess of a very powerful country down the Nile river. They have a very large influence on the other countries – if we just put her in the prison without any apparent reason, they will set war on us, and they will convince the other countries to do so as well.”

Yami cursed. “Goddammit, I have a reason!! And I have proof, in the name of Ra!!” He pulled out a knife, the knife that Kamirah had used to stab him, and painfully waved it before Sakhore’s eyes. He had the extreme enjoyment of seeing his eyes widen as he read the three letters there, which were written in hieroglyphics.

“Look, it has the symbol of her country on it, and her name.” Yami whispered, pain embedded in every word. “And my blood. What other proof do you need?” His hand released the knife, and it clattered noisily on the floor.

“But, your majesty…”

“No buts…do…it now…”

Sakhore could do naught but just stare at the Pharaoh. But he went out anyway, taking the knife with him.

Yami sighed softly, and writhed on the bed, feeling extremely uncomfortable. He then took up the golden box, and it glowed with a soft light. He opened it, and gently caressed the pyramid that lay within its depths.

He felt an odd connection to it…

Maybe because of the eye of Ra that was engraved upon it? Symbol of Egypt…and of Osiris, he guessed. After all, Osiris _was_ the great deity Ra’s son…

Yami rested his head back against the pillow, and clutched the pyramid tightly against his chest.

Yami awoke to the sounds of ruffling clothes. He looked up, and saw that they were back in Yugi’s room, after exiting the Shadow Realm. Yami took a deep breath, and exhaled. For the first time in days, he had a dream of Egypt, one that didn’t concern Makiira in it.

And for the first time, in days, he didn’t see Kamirah in a dream, with her haunting laugh.

He shuddered lightly, and crawled rather lifelessly out of bed. He smiled weakly as he saw his little aibou pulling on a pair of overlarge pants. Yugi greeted him with a grin. “Ohayo, aibou!”

“Ohayo…” Yami replied, and looked around. “Eh? Where’s…Ryou?” he asked.

“Oh, he’s somewhere,” Yugi replied, fitting on a white shirt over his leather coat, and finally placed the Millennium Puzzle around his neck. The chain that bound it made a tinkling sound as the triangular pyramid lay itself upon Yugi’s chest.

Yami climbed out of bed too, and took a blazer. He snapped his belt into place, and pulled his blazer over his tight leather suit. The Millennium Puzzle he wore last, placing its chain around his neck, as the puzzle emitted a golden light. The Sennen Eye appeared on Yami’s forehead, then disappeared as Yami glanced at Yugi.

Yugi was looking happy today…Yami grinned. It made him happy to know his aibou was happy. At least it would remove the Yami no Game’s tension from his chest.

“Aibou, why are you so happy today?” the question escaped Yami before he knew it, and he quickly turned his back towards Yugi.

“Um…I dunno. I just feel happy. Ah, hai. Domo arigatou, aibou.” Yugi said, stuttering slightly. “For…saving me yesterday, and everyone as well.”

//It is my responsibility…// But Yami smiled a true smile at this. He felt pleasure in protecting Yugi and the others. They made him feel loved, and as though he was part of them. He liked to do things for them in return.

The situation now was completely different from olden times in Egypt, he was sure of that.

//Let’s go eat breakfast, aibou.//

Yami whirled around, and flashed a smile at his aibou, his scarlet eyes shining. Yugi smiled back, and the two headed downstairs. An ex-pharaoh of Egypt and his light…

Yugi and Yami just stared at each other throughout the quiet meal. Yugi had fried the eggs and bacon, whilst Yami had fixed up the sausages and tomatoes. The bacon wafted a scent so tempting it would have driven any dead mummy alive, Yami was sure of that. The sausages themselves were quite a sight, golden and crisp. As Yugi munched on them, he deduced that the only thing that Yami was bad at cooking was frying eggs and bacon, somehow or other. And somehow, Yugi just had the tendency to not be able to fix tomatoes and fry sausages the way they should be.

“Nice cooking,” they said in unison, and then they looked at each other, grinning, their eyes dancing happily.

Yami took a sip of ocha, and gazed at Yugi, who was still consuming the crispy sausages. His Millennium Puzzle dangled around his neck, glowing softly.

//Aibou, have you ever regretted finishing the Sennen Puzzle?//

Yugi was startled, and he glanced at Yami. He was shocked to see hurt reflected in Yami’s scarlet eyes. Those eyes, which had been so happy, and so twinkling a moment ago had changed to eyes filled with sadness and sorrow.

Yugi felt a pang of sympathy for the millennia-year old Pharaoh. It must have been painful for Yami to have not felt loved…even if he had felt loved, the feeling he had for Makiira had been destroyed a short time after.

Other than that, Yami had never been loved in his life.

//Aibou?// Yami’s voice was soft, but strong. He demanded an answer in a gentle way.

/I never regretted finishing it./ Yugi turned to look at his elder. /Never. I’m glad I finished it./ He smiled at Yami, cradling the Millennium Puzzle incoherently against his chest. /I have never regretted fitting in that last piece, and I doubt I ever will./

Yami was wary of Yugi’s violet eyes lingering upon him, and he looked up to meet his aibou’s gaze. His mouth curved into a slight smirk. //Why?//

/When I finished the Sennen Puzzle, I got new friends. Jounouchi, Honda…Anzu, and later, Ryou became friends with us too because of his connection to his Millennium Ring./

Yami felt slightly hurt. //You mean you don’t regret finishing the puzzle just because you got to meet new friends. That means my existence doesn’t matter, doesn’t it?//

Yugi held up a finger to silence him. /And after I finished it, aibou, I got to meet…you. I don’t regret finishing the Millennium Puzzle at all, Yami. After I finally finished it, I had a feeling, a feeling that I was protected and safe, because of the Puzzle. Because of you. I had never regretted…from that moment onwards, I had friends. And I found my best friend, Yami. You. /

Yami was startled at his words. //Y-Yugi…// His eyes softened. //Thank you.// He hugged Yugi softly, and the Millennium Puzzles glowed with a soft white light.

“Domo arigatou…boku no tomodachi.”

Yugi looked up at Yami in happiness. “Really?” Yami grinned. “Hai.” He held up his small finger. “Yakusoku?” He looked at Yugi expectantly. Yugi’s eyes twinkled happily, and he held his small finger too, and curled his finger around Yami’s.

“As a Pharaoh with his younger, I therefore swear to not break my plight, friends forever, Darkness and Light.” Yami said softly, and rubbed noses with his aibou. “There, it’s done.”

Yugi smiled, a smile so innocent and so warm, that Yami would have done anything for the sake of that smile. He fingered his Millennium Puzzle, and it glowed again.
‘I’ll do anything for you, tomodachi.’

Yugi smiled at him again as he hugged his best friend tightly.

Ryou entered the shop, and he found them in the kitchen. He smiled at the two. “Konnichiwa!”

Yami ruffled Yugi’s hair, and grinned at Ryou. “Konnichiwa to you too, Ryou.” He stood up, and placed the Puzzle one more around his neck, and his eyes were set and ready.

“We have to go to the Shadow Realm.”

Yami Bakura split off from Ryou the moment they entered the Shadow Realm. Ryou looked rather sheepish. Yami looked at Yami Bakura in surprised.

“Yami no Bakura! We didn’t expect you…”

“Am I that unwelcome?” Bakura said sarcastically, his sharp brown eyes alight with malice. “I didn’t know that.”

“Aw, come on, you’re welcome here!” Yugi said, grinning cheerfully. “We needed the help of the Millennium Ring anyway…”

Yugi’s words hit Bakura just as a stone would have shattered glass.

“You mean my use here is only to use the Millennium Ring?” he asked incredulously.

“Hai!” Yugi replied, still grinning widely.

That had done it. After the stone had shattered the glass, fire had melted the material. Bakura went to a corner and moped quietly, muttering to himself. “I can’t believe it, I’m no use to anyone…I can’t believe it…”

Ryou, Yugi and Yami sweat dropped. “I think we’d better get going.”

“Oui!! Bakura!! Coming?” Yami yelled after him. Bakura glanced at them, and cursed out loud when they were far ahead of him.

“Don’t leave me alone!! OUI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

When Bakura finally caught up with them, they whirled around, expecting him to be panting and out of breath.

“Bakura – you walk really slow…” Yami began, but broke off when he saw him. Skeletons were dangling all over Bakura. Ryou stood frozen for a while. Just like back in the Duelist’s Kingdom – where there were skeletons.

Pause…

Yugi and Ryou screamed out loud, and they quickly dashed off in the opposite direction. Yami just stared at Bakura in puzzlement.

“Help!” Bakura yelled in ecstasy, trying to pry the dusty remains of a human being off him. He almost freaked out when the skeleton emitted a ghostly laugh.

Yami almost jerked. He kicked the skeletons off, and the Sennen Eye appeared on his head as the Millennium Puzzle glowed. The skeletons crumbled to the ground as they were transformed into golden dust.

A ghostly laugh ran through the corridor…Yami shivered, and had to restrain a laugh at Bakura looking so frightened and suspiciously at the pile of dust, as though expecting it to reform and come after him again.

“Aw, come on, Bakura! Its destroyed!” Yami chuckled, holding a hand out to Bakura. Bakura pouted, embarrassed with making such a fuss over a pile of skeletons, but took the hand anyway. Bakura grinned at Yami in gratitude as they caught up with their two younger brothers.

This time, Yugi and Ryou heaved against the wall, breathing hard, looking back to see if there were any skeletons chasing them. (Ridiculous. ^_^;;) They crouched down on the floor when they heard footsteps.

“You-you think it’s a ghost?” (Ryou)
“I…hope not…”(Yugi)
“Um…well…let’s keep quiet.”( Ryou)

They both heaved a sigh of relief when they saw it was only their two yamis together. Yami put a finger to his lips, and said softly, “No noise. Maybe there’s a trap.”

Ryou stood up, and his dark brown eyes held this frightened expression as he looked at his Yami, apparently searching for the skeleton that was on his back a moment ago.

“The skeleton isn’t here anymore, you idiot,” Bakura scoffed, his voice low, and wiped more of the dust away. As he did so, Yugi and Ryou took a whiff of the dust. After that, they did something as stupid as opening the door to hell.

They sneezed.

The cave emitted a groaning sound, and the next second; the place quaked as though it was falling apart. Well, not really. The place was SPLITTING apart! Bakura held his arms protectively around Ryou, who had fainted after a mouse fell on him. (sweat drop) A deep crevasse formed in front of the group, and Yugi was separated from them.

Yami glanced back in horror. Yugi was getting farther away as the crevasse widened…“Yami!!” Yugi screamed, tears streaming down his cheek, hands outstretched, the Millennium Puzzle glowing with a sudden white light. “Aibou!!!” Yami yelled in terror. Yugi – if Yugi was separated now, he could never get him back. Yugi cried out as he hit a rock, knocking him unconscious, and rolled dangerously near the edge.

‘Boku no tomodachi…’ Yugi’s voice echoed in his mind.

He had promised.

He couldn’t break it.

Yami wouldn’t let him.

“Yugi, you PROMISED!!” Yami cried, a rolling tear falling down his face. The Millennium Puzzle glowed brightly as the tear fell on it.

He then did something incredibly brave, incredibly reckless, and incredibly stupid.

Yami jumped across the crevasse, which was about 10 meters away.

Yami Bakura could only stare at him in amazement, and stood quiet there for a while, then he jerked back to reality. “What the HELL ARE YOU DOING, YAMI!?” he shouted incredulously.

‘I’m coming, aibou…’

Yami didn’t make it.

He recovered his common sense in time to clutch on a jutting rock that stuck out from inside the crevasse. He looked down, and almost fainted. It was so deep, he couldn’t even see where the bottom was.

Great. What a nice situation to be stuck in. Here he was, dangling from an unknown height from the bottom, and if he lost his footing…he would just die. Die.

And Yugi would die too.

Yami couldn’t die.

As this realization hit him, he regained all sense of the Game King he was, and the Sennen Eye appeared on his forehead.

“GODDAMMIT!!”

He climbed up, and it was only a short time before Yugi would fall…

//Yugi!!// Yami tried to contact him while reaching for another foot hold.
No response.
//Yugi!//
Silence.
//FOR HELL’S SAKE, YUGI, ANSWER ME!!//
This seemed to stir Yugi. /A…ibou?/
Yami was relieved to hear that one word. //Stay there. Don’t move.//
/Wha…? AAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!/
Apparently, Yugi had looked down at the crevasse.
//I’ll take that back. Don’t move and DON’T LOOK DOWN.//
/Um, yeah, gladly./ Yugi scrambled backwards.

Yami then managed to climb back up, and just at that precise moment, Yugi stumbled forwards, and his eyes widened in shock as he found himself falling forwards.

Yami cursed softly, then jumped up as Yugi let out a blood-curdling scream. He caught Yugi just in time before the little boy fell. Yugi’s violet eyes stared up at Yami’s scarlet ones as he caught him in his arms.

Yami set the boy down, and looked at him just like an infuriated mother would look at a child that had done something wrong, but didn’t know what he had done. Yugi cowered under that look, trying his best to maintain an expressionless face. His innocent eyes met with Yami’s sharp ones, and Yami couldn’t help but smile.

“Stop looking at me like that. You make me feel guilty. Thank GOD you’re safe.” Yami said, grinning, ruffling his aibou’s hair. Yugi heaved a sigh of relief. ‘Saved. I thought he was gonna yell at me.’ He thought silently.

“No, no, I don’t need to yell at you.” Yami said, cocking an eyebrow. Yugi was startled. “Eh?” Yami just shrugged. “We’re the same person. I can read your thoughts, aibou. Anyway, do NOT DO something as dangerous as that next time, and BE CAREFUL.” Yugi grinned sheepishly. “Um, yeah.”

They were both startled by a haunting laughter behind them. They turned around, defensive, to find Kamirah had landed before them, her blue eyes shone eerily in the dark. Her black robe was draped around her, Egyptian-style. The Millennium Orb was hung on her left ear, as usual.

“Well met again, Yami.” Her mouth curved in a smile, her silky black hair cascaded around her shoulders, her fair skin glowing white. “Come…” She motioned to Yami to follow her.

Yami followed, cautiously, and grasped Yugi’s hand. Yugi looked up at him in surprise. /Aibou?/ Yami looked down at him with those red eyes. //We have to be careful. We have to be ready. We have to defeat that woman. In order to do that, we have to keep our guard.//

He could almost hear Kamirah’s mocking laughter in his ears.

They were brought to a table, where Kamirah sat down. Her deep turquoise eyes lingered on Yami, and she smiled evilly, as she brought out her Duel Monsters deck from her pocket.

Yami got her signal, and took out his card deck. He looked at the top card, the Black Magician. Yugi’s face crossed his mind. He glanced at Yugi who was across the room.

‘Boku no tomodachi…’

He set down the deck, and handed it to Kamirah, who gave him his deck. They both shuffled the decks, and each of them returned it to its respective owner.

They didn’t realize they were being seen. A tall man with ice-cold blue eyes observed their moves from behind a pillar. He shifted a lock of brown hair from his fringe to behind his ear, never making a sound as he saw Kamirah, and his mouth curved in a smile as he watched her silky black hair rippled with every move she made, and her beautiful white skin. Most of all…

There were her eyes. Deep blue. Icy-cold. Just like his.

The man’s mouth curved in a smile, and said in a soft husky voice, “What I want, is what I will get.”

At the table, deep blue eyes met with fiery red ones, as they uttered one word.
v “DUAL.”
