"By the late 80s, it had taken Chris De Burgh more than a decade to
become the overnight success so many mistakenly believed him to be. To
those unfamiliar with his steady, determined rise to the top, he
appeared to have arrived suddenly - out of nowhere - clutching major,
world-wide hits with 'The Lady In Red' and its accompanying album,
Into The Light. The reality is not so fanciful. In a
music industry which so often reacts to fashionable flavour and
superficial appeal, Chris remains unique; he is an island of inspiration
nestling amid an ocean of popularity. He is proof positive that while
trends come and go on freak tides, true talent will weather the passing
storms to eventually win through."
Even if you're not a country music fan, country artist Scott Phillips is
well worth checking out. His music is a unique blend of country and
rock that sounds different from any other country artist I've ever
heard. Scott says "It's important to give the audience something more
than just the song. We go out and put on a show that we hope sets us
apart from most other acts. I'm not interested in being a clone, I work
very hard at performing my show, my way. I give everything I have to
the audience and they seem to appreciate it. When the artist and the
audience both have a great time it's a wonderful feeling." Actually,
Scott and I are friends. He used to go to high school with me at
Riverview, though I
didn't know him then... but he recognized me the first time I
went to one of his concerts! Since then, my fiancée
Lisa Brewer and myself have attended
his
concerts
whenever we can.
"Breathing life into long-forgotten lyrics, McKennitt first made her
name as a folk singer, singing traditional folk ballads like 'She Moved
Through The Fair' with freshness and immediacy. Over the course of her
three most recent albums, however, she has expanded both her music and
choice of narrative subjects." I only own one Loreena McKennitt album,
Elemental. However, I am very moved by her musical style
and will purchase more of her albums when I have more spare cash.
John "Bermuda" Schwartz, "Weird Al's" drummer, maintains this site: "I
began logging Al events the day I met him. I can't imagine what I
thought would become of such minutiae but, I was excited to eventually
learn that it had a place on Internet. In addition to lists of names,
dates & places, my archive consists of tour merchandise, posters,
audio/video tapes of TV performances and more than 300 concerts,
promotional items, magazine and newspaper articles, an almost complete
collection of Al's recorded output (over 480 pieces from around the
World), and 4,000+ pictures of Al and related people and subjects." (By
the way... "Weird Al" fans might like this parody I wrote of "The Night
Santa Went Crazy" called "The Night
"Weird Al" Went Tasteless...")
"AMG (All-Music Guide . . .) is an ongoing project to review and rate all
music (whether in-print CDs or out-of-print on vinyl) . . . and provide . . .
credits and related information. Our goal is to achieve a concensus by
expert music . . . free-lance writers as to the best music . . . Our music
ratings and reviews are done by a coordinated system of free-lance writers
and music experts from around the globe. Albums for each music artist are
rated against their own best work and not against other artists in their
genre. The result is a rating scheme that allows users to see at a glance
the best (and worst) albums for any particular artist."
The best site around if your looing for music in MP3 format.
