William H and Mary E McMahan Pyeatt

William Henry Pyeatt was born c1843/1844 in Washington County, Arkansas to Peter Paulus Pyeatt and Lavinia Cox and died in 1914. Peter and Lavinia had a seven-year-old, William, on the 1850 census. However, when Peter died in 1884 in Polk County, Missouri, he did not list a son William or heirs of a deceased son. Other of his children who were deceased and left heirs were listed as were all of his living children (presumably). So, is William Henry Pyeatt attached to the wrong family? If so, their son, William, must have died before having a family of his own. If that is the case - who are William Henry Pyeatt's parents?

William Pyeatt appears to have served in the Confederate Army in Company H 15th (Northwest) Arkansas Infantry along with his brother, Alvin F Pyeatt.

William H married Mary E McMahan in Grayson County, Texas, on September 14, 1869. Their license was issued to 'W H Pyatt and Molly E McMahan'. Mary was born July 1857 in Missouri. Her father hailed from Kentucky and her mother from Missouri.

William and Mary are both buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Carter County, Oklahoma, with some of their descendants.

The known children of William and Mary were:

William's family appeared as follows on the 1870 census of Precinct 4, Kentucky Town, Grayson County, TX:

This family was enumerated #259/283 (Pyeatt) and #259/284 (McMahan) pg 148. As far as I can tell, E A McMahan is Mary's brother. Neighbors were Robert Sullivan, Silas Everhard, B M Carr, A J Pennel, A Lackey and Alfred Lackey.

William and family appeared as follows in Grayson County, Texas, on the 1880 census:

William and family appeared on the 1900 census in Precinct 1 of Grayson County, Texas, as follows:

This family was enumerated #378/380 pg 147b. Their son, Charles D Pyeatt was enumerated #375 on pg 147a. Neighbors were ? Dorough, George Pitts, H Griffin, John Linn, I Hubbard, H Shugard, and Mar? Martin.

Evidently between 1880 and 1900 the family lived in Indian Territory and then moved back to Texas. However, I found them back in Oklahoma on the 1910 census in Carter County, Oklahoma, as follows:

This family was enumerated #230/236 Bailey Street pg 126A. Their neighbors were ? Scott, Thomas Nix, John Perdue, Columbus Barrington, Earl Hammond, Nathan Oliver, James Staples, Adolph Warren, Gilmore Hammond, Jessie Ewing, and John H Ferguson.

Here are the Pyeatt names from the Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma. I would assume that some of the stones had actual dates and the year was extracted to make the transcription go faster:

Click here for Rose Hill Cemetery transcriptions. I do not know which one of the many Hill gentlemen that Pearl belonged with. I have all of the Hills abstracted on the cemetery page.
