Rats
Once I looked for cosmic guidance,
And I heard a dragon laugh,
I searched for new directions,
Saw the scorpion sting itself to death,
The spider danced an Irish jig,
Upon my epitaph,
The rats, they feasted, on moldering flesh,
And I wondered will this last?
I looked once more toward the sky,
And saw the eagle fall,
The vultures screamed in unison,
The rats, they ate some more.
A twisted tree fell 'pon my path,
Blocking all progression,
I turned around to retrace my steps,
To seek where I started from,
But the path was become a snake,
Hungering for my soul,
Side by side with the rats,
And they were starved for more.
So here I stand, no place to go,
Abyss on either side,
In which flows a molten river,
Product slime of mankind,
I see fishes of hatred,
The eels of immorality,
A turtle speaking false words,
Carrying pictures of humanity,
The defecation of a master race,
And the rats...
Greedily thrive there.
