Carol Volz Begley is an impressionist plein air artist whose passion for drawing and painting is vividly seen in her colorful canvases. Painting outside with oils and pastels enables her to capture the effect of the colors in sunlight and shadows. By using a full palette of rich colors, Carol captures the mood and subject of her paintings while inviting the viewers to look closer at the colors seen as compared to what is perceived.
Carol began drawing and painting at an early age and has had the good fortune of studying art - drawing and painting - in classes and workshops presented by a number of accomplished and professional artists over the years. For the past nine years, Carol has traveled abroad, painting the landscapes of Brittany, France, Spain, Belgium, Cornwall England, Italy, and Guadeloupe. Her Art Studio, where she teaches classes to adults and children, is located in Beaver, PA, a small town situated near the Beaver and Ohio Rivers.
Painting on location and working in all kinds of weather creates peak experiences and a sensual depth to the paintings. "Feeling the atmosphere and energy surrounding me are almost as important in the painting process as the actual subject itself," says the artist. Carol loves the magical illusion of sunlight and shadows under changing weather conditions and the juxtaposing of complimentary colors for greater brilliance in achieving the vibrant character of an impressionistic landscape. Carol is represented exclusively by the Gallery at Avenue B in Wexford, PA. She also has paintings hanging in the KADA Gallery in Erie, PA and the Third Street Gallery in Carnegie, PA. She is a member of the Portrait Society of America and Pittsburgh Society of Artists. She has participated in numerous juried and group shows locally, including the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio. She has won several awards and her paintings are in a number of private collections.
