Great Goddess
(of life, death and regeneration)
< Previous----Next>
The Great Goddess was a complex figure. More than just a fertility goddess
or a Mother Terrible, she embodied both the nurturing and destructive forces
of nature. With large hips, her hands often pictured holding her breasts,
her female sexuality was emphasized. But she was an androgynous figure as
well. The shape of her head often resembled a phallus, sometimes with no facial
features at all. Her head-dress at times suggested foreskin. The goddess is
both powerful and empathic. Made from glazed red earthenware clay, the back
of this limited edition piece displays the artist's signature stamp and the
LQP chop mark, 2 3/8" high.
