At the Foot of the Cross
(the spiritual life)
< Previous----Next>
The cross is a powerful symbol of Christ's crucifixion and victory over death.
It also has a lengthy pre-Christian history. Numerous cultures have used the
symbol of the radiated cross as representative of a sun god. In the Americas,
the cross was a wind rose. The cross has also symbolized the four directions
of the world, or the four rivers of paradise flowing to the four corners of
the earth. In Genesis, the river in the Garden of Eden separates into four
headwaters which water the different lands. In this piece, humble figures
worship reverently before the cross. Made from glazed red earthenware clay,
the back of this limited edition piece displays the artist's signature stamp
and the LQP chop mark. Left-- 1/2" high, right--1 3/8".
