MMU Library - Special collections Text only Manchester Metropolitan University Library MMU . The faculty of Art and Design was founded in 1838 and the art Library dates from 1845. It has an outstanding collection of books of nineteenth and twentieth century art publishing. The Library's main printed book special collection is the Book Design Collection, a collection of some 10, 000 British private press and commercial publications including an extensive collection of twentieth century Artists' Books. This has been enhanced by the more recent acquisition of the archives of artists such as John Farleigh, Barnett Freedman and Paul Hogarth, and extensive collections of Victorian ephemera.
