Kos Town
Kos Neo Polis

Welcome to part four of my pictures from Kos Town. These focus on the 14th century French Castle. The castle was founded by the Knights of St. John(For more detail see my Rhodes page). Kos was one of their outposts, on their way through Turkey to the Holy Land. Though not as extensive as Rhodes, this castle served an important purpose as a safe harbor, refuge and a place to stage strikes into Turkey. It finally did fall to the Turks and was allowed to fall to ruins. IT appeared the Greeks were rebuilding it when I was there. For more information, please see part one

I hope you enjoy the photos. Any comments, please E-mail me, jpolos@stmarys-ca.edu. Click on the title or thumbnail to view the larger picture.
