Cave Info InfoCave Photos
These pages are dedicated to the monastery of the Virgin Mary in the cave and the Eupalino Aqueduct both outside of the town of Pythagorio on Samos. The monastery is built around a cave that holds a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is believed that the cave at one time housed an oracle because of ruins found in the cave. The cave, other than being about 30 degrees cooler than the outside, is a very tranquil place and gives one the time to reflect and contemplate things.
The Aqueduct was built in the 5th century B.C. and is over 1 km long. By using mathematics, the builders were able to start two separate tunnels and connect them in the middle.
