I began my art career as a chain saw carver in rural Minnesota carving objects out of trees left dead from Dutch Elm disease. My career quickly evolved to demonstrating my craft at fairs, festivals and chain saw carving contests across the US. In my younger years I did many shows including the Iowa State Fair, Alaska State Fair, and the Philadelphia Boat Sport and travel show. Also, in my early twenties I traveled with the Scheers Lumberjack Show of champions. I had a great time performing Chopping, sawing, speed climbing and seeing the country with a great group guys.
I like to say My career has evolved a little like the circus to the theater. From traveling shows where the process was as interesting as the product to owning my own galleries where the art is the most important thing. I had owned three galleries on Cape Cod over the 16 years while I living there. The first one I started is on 6a in East Sandwich and is called The Giving Tree. I've had a gallery in New Bedford for a few years and a studio there in a textile mill since 2001. My most recent project here in Chester Vermont is going well. I like marketing my work where I can be seen creating and building relationships with the people collecting my work. Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler is my largest collector owning over 30 pieces. Much of Tyler's collection has been carved from trees on the Rock Star's South Shore Ma. property. Other collectors include Aerosmith band members Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Joey Kramer and Tommy Hamilton. Other notables such as Prince, Barry Manilow and Bill Koch own Pinske art works.
My art work has attracted much media attention over my twenty plus year career. I have been featured on CNN Headline News three times, been in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today weekend, the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, Cape Cod Times, New Bedford Standard times, the Providence Journal and hundreds local papers over the course of my career. Much media exposure has come from winning national chain saw carving competitions including The Chain Saw Carving World Championships at age 24. From my start as a chainsaw carver my work has evolved to include many forms of sculpture, painting and funky furniture. I think my most significant art placement is the two wood carvings in Votkinsk Russia. They were a gift to the Russians from the Pentagon of a carved bear and eagle symbolizing the two nations during singing of the nuclear disarmament treaties.
Most recently my work was in a made for TV movie and the Hydraulic Power unit we've designed was featured on the Discovery channel.
For much of my career I have represented myself through my studio or in galleries on the east coast. I have a good collector base that keeps me busy.
As of 2004 I had created and sold around 1000 chainsaw carved wooden bears! Hey, everyone needs their bread and butter.
