Foreword
The
Foot
Position
on pointe
In
standing correctly on the pointes the dancer stands on the pads of the toes
pulling the weight upward from them as much as possible.
Never
push down on the toes, curling them over so that you stand on the knuckles.
The
foot must be in its proper alignment when standing on pointe. Toes must be
aligned to heel and foot must be aligned to leg.

Sickle

The arch must be developed through strength, not weakness. To achieve this
strength, the dancer must be constantly pulling up through the insteps, not
pushing down when standing on pointes. Do not press down on the feet so that
they bear the weight of the body and you dance on your knuckles, as in Figure
16, but pull the weight of the body upward to take as much of it as possible off
the toes. This
develops the insteps correctly, giving them strength and stability.
