About the Artist - Lainie Martin

I started drawing at a very young age (one of my favorite subjects being Snoopy). I'm certain my artistic influences came from my father (who Picture of Lainie at her art exhibitdoes technical drawing for his archaeological work) and my grandfather (who was Art Editor and Director for the Kansas City Star for 30 years).  He was also a successful oils/acrylics landscape artist and painted many scenes from the Colorado Rocky Mountains reminiscent of many childhood vacations to Estes Park, Colorado.

I have a degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia (Bachelors of Fine Arts in Drawing and Computer Graphics - 1992).   My arts studies definitely helped me learn the many rules of good design as well as opened me to try different media and techniques.  Since then painting has continued to be an integral (and therapeutic) part of my life, with colored pencil and water-soluble colored pencils as my primary media. I am also active in our city's Art Club (past President, and current 1st Vice President).

By profession, I have done some desktop publishing but in the wake of the Internet age, I have discovered a new job - Web development/design (which I would have never thought I would be doing when I graduated in 1992).  I have been a Web developer for the State of MO - Department of Education now for seven years.  Although highly challenging (and very stressful at times - what job isn't?), it has been rewarding.
