As you Kayenta residents should know by now, the movie theater in Kayenta opened September 9, 2000. The movies it was showing were "Chicken Run", "Gladiator", and "What Lies Beneath." This little section of the web page is just a review of what I thought about the opening of this long-awaited attraction. Now, this isn't a review of the movie, this is a review of the theater, so here we go! I sat down and the film started. The theater is pretty small. There aren't many seats in it, so it filled up rather quickly. The seats were pretty comfortable, but they weren't the best. The little hole in the arm rest was nice, and I placed my $2.00 cup of soda in it. There wasn't much leg room and the people next to me always wanted to leave. I was sitting in the end of the row, right next to the aisle, so I had to sit up and crush my legs back to let them through 4,000 times. This is what I expected from the theater in Kayenta on it's first day: the surround sound wasn't on, but maybe it was for the best, I might have jumped out of my seat a thousand times. I also noticed one light on the walkway was out and the lights above us were on. They were very dim, but I like a dark theater, people. The exit signs weren't on, but we all knew where they were. The entrance to Cinema One wasn't working right and every time it shut, it slammed a little. There were many kids in the theater and they all seemed to talk at once. I could hear the movie, but I could also hear them, and it wasn't fun. Finally an employee threatened to kick the main noise-makers out and they shut up. Thank you for that! I sat there and finished my popcorn and the movie. I exited with a smile on my face, not because the movie was good (it wasn't that great), but because I watched it in Kayenta! This is truly a day to be remembered. If I were you, I'd get to the theater and watch a film! It is well worth it!
