CRISTO REY CHURCH

CRISTO REY! Christ the King! The Church on the Pascua Yaqui Reservation 12 miles southwest of downtown Tucson which was built in 1976 by means of financial assistance from the Diocese of Tucson and the employment of local labor, celebrates one of Our Lord's titles of honor - HIS KINGSHIP. What more effective weapon can there be against the destructive forces of the age than the acknowledgement that JESUS CHRIST IS KING!>

The Reservation began in 1964 with a grant of 202 acres of federal lands to the Pascua Yaqui Association (PYA) and since then has grown to some 892 acres. From the first few families who located there in the mid 1960's, there are now 600 homes and a population in excess of 4,000 people with plans for 400 more homes to be built in the next 5 years. These additional homes could easily produce a population in excess of 6,000 on the Reservation.>

What will our pastoral response be before this challenge? Where will we find the MINISTERS - the generous disciples of the Lord - who will bring the "GOOD NEWS" to adult, youth and child alike? Our growth in Faith and our attention to the needs of the Church will be critical during the next few years.
