November 2000 Recap

November was dominated by the Backstreet Boys and accented by Spankin’ New Music Week. There was the unfair tie that was “virtually” a tie on November 3rd, which was of course balanced by the mention. Lots of visitors showed up on most of the days, but the days that didn’t have anything going on were subject to some strange stuff. TRL producers are obvious in their continual search to do something new and interesting… days were given to the audience, “ties” were created, trivia contests were rampant, a tour of the studio was given, contests and games were created with gift certificate prizes, and never a chance was given up to pit different artists against each other. Hmmm… that sounded really negative.

Wednesday 11.1.2000
10 "Man Overboard" by Blink-182
Big drop. There’s reshuffling everyday at this end of the countdown, and I like that. Just like normal TRL.
09 "Case of the Ex" by Mya
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
07 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
06 "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)" by Christina Aguilera
The whole picking the top 10 contest is hard because videos like this bounce all over the place. She's been solid 4 and 3, and now she's slipping. But not as bad as yesterday and Friday.
05 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
04 "Faded" by soulDecision
Okay, forget his mouth, the lead singer's ENTIRE face and its expressions are irritating. Especially on the "and you know I want it" line. [[shudder]]
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
This is one LONG song. And that girl got over $700 worth of CDs... I’m so jealous.
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Justin SERIOUSLY needs to work on some of those hand motions.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
Love the song and all, but the black and blue images now just remind me of the fact that it's been raining here practically nonstop since last week. And there's more coming this weekend. Since WHEN does that happen in Phoenix in October?!
Notes:
- Contest: Picking the top 10. Three girls (all wearing red) win, and get to co-host Spankin’ New Music Week.
- Ray in the control room, where the losers are sent
- News: Eminem LOST his lyrics book. Britney’s “Stronger” out on November 3. How are those two tidbits related? She’s on the cover of his book.
- Jeff, billboard construction worker, introduces the #1 video and gets to come back tomorrow.
- Today I watched TRL with one of my friends. And I realized more than ever that some people don’t always think the way I do. (lol) You knew that, of course. :) But we did agree on most stuff. Like how Carson’s jacket today horribly clashed with his pants.

Thursday 11.2.2000
10 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
The fact that this edged out Blink-182 (making the only change on the countdown’s order) SERIOUSLY distresses me. That Blink song is worth retirement.
09 "Case of the Ex" by Mya
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
The religious imagery in this video I guess are supposed to be offensive. To me, even as a Catholic school girl (like Britney! *rolls eyes*), they just seem obvious. He picked every obvious thing and threw them together. It’s not that offensive. Or thought-provoking.
07 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
Ooh! My friend told me what happens at the end of this video! You know, the whole destination to all her walking? She gets on a plane (chases it down, apparently). Going to tell someone something, I guess.
06 "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)" by Christina Aguilera
Aaaah! And here I thought the Counter Guy got it all straightened out... today’s Christina’s 61st day. Tomorrow it will be announced. (What’s that mean? Travesty.)
05 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
04 "Faded" by soulDecision
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
The mermaid? There’s a mermaid?! The mermaid hits Ricky? It’s all odd...
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Today I’m going to start the appearance commentary; it’ll last a few days. Appearance 1: Justin’s “beard” thing has GOT to go. It ruins the “baby” image (also known as the he-is-hot image), and he had that DOWN.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
I have officially seen commercials for the new album, Black and Blue, out November 21. And so here I am doing my part (lol), as an actual member of BSB-OOST: Go out and buy the album. It’s going to be good. Seriously.
Notes:
- Ananda Lewis guest hosts
- Outkast visits: Stankonia is the new album
- Jeff, billboard construction worker, counts down the top 5 home videos: 03 “Nookie” 02 “What’s My Age Again?” 01 “Oops! I Did It Again” (with the hilarious high-pitched guy)
- News: Choose or Lose has registered one million voters; Charlie’s Angels out tomorrow
- Bigger news: Carson and Tara Reid are reportedly ENGAGED. I wonder if that’s why he’s gone today? :)

Friday 11.3.2000
Prelude: Okay, so today was definitely a crappy day. You don’t wanna hear it, but it all climaxed at the point when some girl backed into my car and took off. All I wanted to do was go home and take a nap before tonight, but she made me so mad, that I couldn’t. So I instead decided to get more lyrics for the lyrics page (they’re up, now). And then I checked my email. And then... OH MY MOTHER OF GOD. See #5. The day is officially awesome. (Thanks Rachael and Gin--because of your enthusiastic heads up, the moment is taped.)

10 "Case of the Ex" by Mya
I’m wondering about any possible longevity for this song. I mean, in 10 years, how weird would it be to sing “when y’all broke up in ’96”?
09 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
08 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
Who am I? Born in Detroit, in college at the age of 15, worked with Grandmaster Flash. That’s great and well. Here’s the kicker: she went to the University of Arizona. I HATE the UofA (big ASU fan here)... she’s striking out all over the place.
07 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
06 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
Lyric of the day: I’m “a rebel from the waist down.” This is what is known as sampling. From a ‘60s saying.
05 "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)" by Christina Aguilera
Carson: “And, uh, Sarah in Arizona, if you’re watching, TODAY is the 61st time on the countdown for 'Come on Over Baby.'" Okay, who thinks that’s me? ... HOLY SH*T!
04 "Faded" by soulDecision
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
02 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
I guess... because, you see, it was “VIRTUALLY” a tie (i.e. this really did win). I think it was more of a get-you-to-watch-the-show-despite-the-fact-that-nothing’s-going-on ploy than it was tie. And on a side note, I'd like to mention that that girl heading up the BSB "side" does NOT represent BSB fans. And least her anger doesn't. Geez. (I am speaking for myself here.)
01 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Any fans out there? What a cheap way to get to #1 for the first time. If ‘N Sync had really won today (as it was a virtual tie), the TRL people would’ve played it out normally, as it would’ve been a big enough event without this competition crap.
Notes:
- Tie (“virtually”) for #1 between BSB and ‘N Sync. Fans of each argue (argue) over who knows the most trivia, and then hold a trivia contest... that was fun to watch.
- Announced: Christina’s 61st day. And just ‘cause you know I exist, Carson, it doesn’t mean I’m letting TRL off the hook on this one. I know how to count, and YESTERDAY was Christina’s 61st. :)
- I think my “mention” cancels out the fact that Blink yet again wasn’t on, but that was a little disappointing. :)
- Updated lyrics, and this day definitely goes in the site history.

Monday 11.6.2000
04 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
07 "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)" by Christina Aguilera
I know I made a big deal about this video’s number of days, but apparently there’s a possible explanation. It’s this: one day, they played “Ven Conmigo,” the Spanish version of this song. If that’s the reason, it’s cheap. It’s still the same video. (Thanks to Unofficial TRL)
03 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
This video is awesome up until the point when the chair gets a mind of its own.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
I don’t know if you all saw MTV’s TRL charts for Friday, but this was at #1 (on the OFFICIAL online chart). It was posted before the whole trivia thing, which is well on its way to being a travesty. Tomorrow I’ll talk about something totally less serious: the hilarious Radio Music Awards.
05 "Faded" by soulDecision
They’re cool. They made me like the video more.
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Appearance 2: What exactly is with JC and his lack of... good taste? What are these pants that he’s wearing? It’s like snakeskin, turned cotton, turned oddly-black-spotted pajama pants. All in all--pretty ugly.
06 "Case of the Ex" by Mya
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
“Oh, this is the PERFECT one for you, Chippy!” - Carson
10 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
I wanna know WHY this is slipping. Have we not heard the catchy chorus, seen and done the dance, and screamed it out with the windows down in the car? ... No? Okay, then. Vote for this anyway.
Notes:
- Chippy the Chimp randomly picks the order of the pre-selected videos, as seen above. He spit on people; “ It’s like that girl on Friday, who had a… problem with me” – Carson. Hehe.
- Hilarie outside
- Britney Spears debuts
- soulDecision visits
- The Offspring Million Dollar Contest 1st semi-finalist chosen: 1080642
- Thought of the day: Carson on those Motorola commercials... how funny is that? Thought II of the day: My mom, being in her crazy SNL stage I guess (Presidential Bash 2000 was a big deal...lol), showed me a TRL sketch (wow! They do those!) and Jimmy Fallon makes a good Carson.

Tuesday 11.7.2000 Election Day!
10 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
At least it’s still here...
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
08 "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)" by Christina Aguilera
Tomorrow is the retirement party for our departing diva.
07 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
Remember how I mentioned the obviousness of his “symbolism”? I just realized that he’s not one for subtlety anyway.
06 "Case of the Ex" by Mya
05 "Faded" by soulDecision
Carson’s favorite part is the “Girl you know you got it, and you know I want it” part where he makes those horrid facial expressions. It’s mine too.
04 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
03 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
[Calmly controlling my breathing...] Appearance 3 (when they’re at 3! Hehe): I think that it is Lance’s hotness that makes this video. Watching the video for the first time, Lance’s first shot made me stop laughing (lol). WOW.
02 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
Go Britney! I personally am fond of her oh-so-eloquent and telling “whatever.” No, really, I am.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
The Radio Music Awards provided our co-hosts here with some embarrassingly corny, but funny, dialogues to introduce performers and presenters. Makes me wonder what’s gonna happen for Britney at the American Music Awards.
Notes:
- Election Day... please vote.
- Sneak peek (world premiere tomorrow on DFX) of Eminem’s “Stan.” (Stan’s pregnant girlfriend’s singing the chorus! I’m impressed.)
- Adam Sandler visits (first with the annoyingly present Frat Boy who, to top it all off, hasn’t voted): Little Nicky out Friday
- Gwen Stefani from No Doubt visits
- The Offspring Million Dollar Contest 2nd semi-finalist chosen
- THEY’RE NOT ON ANYMORE (ahem)... but I bought the Blink-182 live album today, and I definitely recommend it. Especially if you went to the concert.

Wednesday 11.8.2000
10 "Original Prankster" by The Offspring
All of the sudden the countdown’s a little better. One video at a time. #7 works in this favor too.
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
08 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
His trademark red hat and a t-shirt win him the “best style” category. That’s not really exceptional “style”: it’s like EVERY OTHER normal guy, but whatever. If it keeps the video on the countdown, it’s cool. :)
07 "Bathwater" by No Doubt
06 "Faded" by soulDecision
05 "Ven Conmigo" by Christina Aguilera
OKAY... so does this day count towards retirement tomorrow or not? Right, CONSISTENCY has yet again failed.
04 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
03 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
That John Norris took my line... but I was so going to bring up the fact that these ‘N Syncers here should’ve voted in Florida. I’ll forgive him, though, John Norris is cool.
02 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
What’s going on with the falling and sliding across the floor thing? She’s FALLING down right as she says “I’m STRONGER” ... something’s not right.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
You think they voted? I mean, they live in Florida, the all-important state right now. They BETTER have voted... it would be “tragical” if they didn’t. (I GUESS that’s a real word now...) Anyway, enough people vote for THEM everyday.
Notes:
- Election Day on TRL. Best Style: Fred, Gwen, AJ; Best Moves: Britney, Ricky, Justin; Best Voice: Christina, JC, Brian. “I love how we’re acting like this is a big deal.” - Carson
- News with John Norris, who stole my idea: The presidency relies on Florida. I bet those 100,000 Nader voters in Florida whose second choice was Gore are KICKING themselves right now. See #1, 3.
- The Offspring Million Dollar Contest 3rd semi-finalist chosen

Thursday 11.9.2000
10 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
09 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
Due to time constraints (of course), this isn’t played, but we ARE graced with the presence of the #10 video. Which is just so much better anyway, right?
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn MansonAfter the first Christina contestant: “Let’s watch Marilyn Manson, while we’re on to freaky things.” – Carson. I dunno… the Halloween episode provided us with one FREAKY Christina; these don’t really compare.
07 "Faded" by soulDecision
06 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
He and Christina will share only one day on the countdown: she’s leaving right as he’s coming. Interesting.
05 "Come On Over (All I Want Is You)" by Christina Aguilera
Highlights of a retired video: the pretty colors, the green outfit, the at-a-different-tempo, but still good, dance sequence
04 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
“Amazing things can happen with just a chair” - Carson
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
New TRL segment: Whose Ass Is This?
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync “Plus there’s a lover’s quarrel brewing in the top three” – Carson as he teases what’s happening in the show. Britney’s not even in the top three.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
OKAY, I’m FREAKED OUT here... my voting question is answered: NONE of them voted (didn’t have absentee ballots, apparently). Which might have been a good thing, because three of them would’ve gone for Bush. This is me pretty much disillusioned.
Notes:
- Miss Draguilera pageant in the retirement party for Christina Aguilera’s 65th (66th) day.
- Eminem debuts
- The Offspring Million Dollar Contest 4th semi-finalist chosen
- Two videos were played IN FULL today (and I’m shocked!): Eminem and Christina

Friday 11.10.2000
10 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
08 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
07 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
“After years of having people telling me what to do, I knew that if I was going to make another record, this was how it had to be done.” I can’t imagine that SHE wanted this.
06 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
05 "Faded" by soulDecision
04 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
What’s Nick’s favorite cereal? Answer: Frosted Flakes... “Much like his hair.” - Carson
Notes:
- Pauly Shore, in the outside audience, stops by, and doesn’t leave the show alone.
- Aaron Carter visits. OH MY GOD HE’S SO CUTE!!! (And “cute” really applies here... I mean, he’s TWELVE.) And he sounds EXACTLY like Nick. “I only have like 2 friends though.”
- “Brother’s Keeper” Game (Nick Trivia): Aaron v. BSB fan (who actually TOLD him she’d be his sister-in-law some day... he was scared)
- John Norris with Johnny Rzeznik
- ‘N Sync introduces their video (TRL hyped THAT?!)

Monday 11.13.2000
10 "Original Prankster" by The Offspring
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba - Live
“Your video’s at 9: I dance today... tomorrow it’s at 12.” - Carson after she invited him to perform with her
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
07 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
06 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
05 "Faded" by soulDecision
04 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin - Live
Performed live (it was seriously SO good, with a band and everything, ESPECIALLY compared to the video). “Sure as hell beats watching the video!” - Carson
03 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
How in the world does that guy trip over the chair? I roll my eyes every time I see that; he needs to try harder to make that look real.
02 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
News on the BSB-OOST street team assembled to promote the album (out in EIGHT days!--go buy it)... Carson was unbelievably uninterested in that story. You could tell.
01 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
You’d think I’d be *upset* about this, wouldn’t you? I’m not... ‘N Sync at least voted in the election. And they get major props for that. Plus--just LOOK at Lance. :)
Notes:
- Spankin’ New Music Week begins: “If the Video Music Awards are the prom, this would be like Homecoming Week.” - Carson
- Samantha Mumba visits and performs
- Ben Affleck visits: new movie Bounce
- Ricky Martin visits and performs: Sound Loaded is out tomorrow
- World premiere Spice Girls video: “Holler”
- Met the four Offspring Million Dollar contestants

Tuesday 11.14.2000
10 "Man Overboard" by Blink-182
Aw! I missed dearly Tom’s WTF, Adam’s Song antics.
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
There’s some crazy wacked-out voting going on today that defies pretty much everything I know about TRL voting trends. First, this didn’t go up, even after her performance. And Ricky barely went up (those boy groups are STRONG). Blink-182 is all-of-the-sudden back (not a bad thing), but Limp Bizkit is gone, today. And “Stan” lasted all of 2 days.
08 "Bathwater" by No Doubt
Another rift in the trend that is “normal” TRL voting. The chorus of this song is ingenious.
07 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
This video looks like it was so poorly put together. It doesn’t look like Debelah and her partner are a PART of the whole dance background. Like the other dancers were shot at a different time and then put together. I don’t know... at any rate, both the song and the video are low quality.
06 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
He’s visiting tomorrow. Anyone scared?
05 "Faded" by soulDecision
04 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
You think Britney REALLY knows how to drive a stick shift? Didn’t Making the Video show her having a problem with a regular car?
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
All right, so I took Carson’s quote after his performance yesterday out of context. It was still funny. :)
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
The café scene is odd. They’re people watching (or, staring, whichever, it’s pretty normal)… They’re just lookin’ around... singin’ about those people and TRYING to look like it’s normal, but it’s not.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
DAMN... today I just stopped watching and listened to their voices. One week till the new album. I can make it.
Notes:
- Spankin’ New Music Week continues with another 90 minute episode
- The Offspring visit and perform: Conspiracy of One out today
- Samuel L. Jackson visits
- Offspring Million Dollar Giveaway: the 14 year-old Ashley wins after some cool trivia games

Wednesday 11.15.2000
10 "Man Overboard" by Blink-182
Mark in the banana suit takes the cake. On a side note, The Mark, Tom and Travis Show debuted at #8 and I’m proud to say that I contributed to that.
09 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
Okay, I have a plan: we get No Doubt and the Offspring or even Eminem back, and this could be gone. Cross your fingers. :) (And vote.)
08 "Holler" by Spice Girls
Honestly... how freaky is this?
07 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
“It seems like every question is so deep and ‘what does this mean?’ ... [TRL] is hardly the platform for that.” So much for that, Carson, there was a pretty serious “debate” with the mothers... but it was well done. Eloquent. All the resulting and resounding praise must’ve been a huge ego boost for him.
06 "Faded" by soulDecision
“This should all put you guys in a very good mood.” – Carson. Things got a little serious there for a minute. (Which shouldn’t happen on a show like TRL, right? Riiiiight.)
05 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
Bouncing back with a vengeance. Although I REALLY don’t understand why the Offspring isn’t back, maybe this is the reason.
04 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
I’m quite fond of the bridge at the end of this video. It’s big and bold and a nice “strength” statement. And it looks cool.
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Lyric of the day: “Forever has now begun.” It is seriously SO cool how they have the people look at their watches for that line.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
That twirling thing AJ does with the nail file (for the black nails, of course) is so fun. I’ve done that when I’m bored in class or something for forever (people get, like, amazed... it's great).
Notes:
- Spankin’ New Music Week continues; 90 minute episode
- Spice Girls debut
- Marilyn Manson visits: Holy Wood out yesterday
- Vitamin C visits; world premiere video: “The Itch”
- Method Man drops by. (“Possibly one of the greatest human beings in the business.” – Carson’s very generous with his compliments today.); the Wu Tang Clan is in the back waiting for DFX

Thursday 11.16.2000
10 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
Well… Carson exalted him and how awesome his visit was, and even I was highly impressed… and he WENT DOWN?! I swear, voting this week is severely screwed up.
07 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
06 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
05 "Faded" by soulDecision
04 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
03 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
It’s colorful. I like that. Except Justin’s hair blends in a little too well with the color of his turtleneck.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys - Live
Somebody tell me they (well... mainly Kevin) were wearing those outfits for the benefit of the European crowd. And, raise your hand if you CANNOT BELIEVE that Kevin said what he said. I need to see all hands here. HOLY HOWIE!
Notes:
- Spankin’ New Music Week continues with another 90-minute show
- Quick shots from the MTV Europe Music Awards, which were being aired LIVE from Stockholm (to be broadcast in the U.S. on November 20, 8 P.M.)
- Backstreet Boys from the MTV EMAs: Interview (why they always let Kevin sit closest to the interviewer is BEYOND me) and live “Shape of My Heart” performance
- Mya visits; world premiere video: “Free”
- News: the Beatles and their #1 album 1 (27 #1 hits). Next week is the MTV/Rolling Stone Top 100 Pop Songs: From the Beatles to Backstreet.
- BSB Trivia Contest, which was a little slow, but HIGHLY entertaining. I am not kidding in the least. (After the 2nd question... Carson: “You’re 1 for 1, though, you’re not bad…” Girl: “1 for TWO.” Carson: “Yeah, whatever.”)

Friday 11.17.2000
10 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
09 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
07 "Faded" by soulDecision
06 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
05 "Holler" by Spice Girls
04 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
03 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
Notes:
- Spankin’ New Music Week continues… 90-minute show… Top 10 Spankin’ New Moments on Saturday, 11 A.M.
- News of Joe C.’s death (in Kid Rock’s band); he was 26… no stupid video commentary from me today because this started out the show and is not conducive to humor.
- Blink-182 visits from San Diego, as the surprise guest. (The earring totally gave Tom away at the beginning.)
Highlights: Girl, in trying to uncover his identity: “Are you a Backstreet Boy?” Tom: “Thank God, no.”
Carson: “Where are the Blink fans?” [screaming fans] Tom: “Hey, did you hire those people?”

- 98 Degrees visits; world premiere video: “My Everything” (ooooohhhhhhhh! Jessica Simpson is in it! Awww!)
- Carson got a tattoo… er… it’s on his forearm. “Believe me, the pain reminds me everyday.” DUDE… it was done YESTERDAY.
- Blink-182 vs. 98 Degrees trivia contest: 98 answers questions about rock music (they got 3 out of 5), Blink about pop music (1/5). Blink lost, although they definitely won for being funnier. (Watch the repeat of the show JUST for that… seriously.)

Monday 11.20.2000
10 "Holler" by Spice Girls
Request of the day: “‘Cause they’re sugar and spice and everything nice!”
09 "Gotta Tell You" by Samantha Mumba
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
How funny was it last week to see all-in-black Marilyn standing, complete with the flaming red eye makeup, in front of the bright pink backdrop and the huge Jockey etc. advertising?
07 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
News: Fred Durst talks about his laryngitis and the shows cancelled. Didn’t Christina have voice problems recently too? Strange.
06 "Faded" by soulDecision
05 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
The anger in the last of Stan’s messages to Eminem is very well done—it’s just too bad that half those angry words are edited out.
04 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
Britney’s first kiss: Mason in 7th grade. (Source: some LSU girl in the audience who went to school with her)
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
Responding to the people who criticize this video for being too sexual (think ‘hands’): “Well, ladies and gentlemen, this is the year 2000.” Yeah, but that fact doesn’t lessen my level of disgust.
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Okay, Susie… me and you have gotta have a talk :)… I do LIKE them. They’re cute and this song is gorgeous and as Mark from Blink-182 says, “those motherscratchers can dance.” No, I don’t have any of their CDs…but still they provide some great entertainment all and all--just not as MUCH as the “others.” :)
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
I have 2 things today: 1) Rosie O’Donnell… GENIUS. 2) The huge amount of excitement I’m feeling... is it normal?
Notes:
- Cheerleaders in the Thanksgiving Day Parade compete to get into the studio. “This is really just about the stupidest thing I’ve ever done, by the way.” – Carson
- Debelah Morgan visits and performs “Dance With Me”
- Mason calls and confirms #4. “What was once a rumor, now, for the most part... we still believe to be a rumor.” – Carson.
- Anna Kournicova visits

Tuesday 11.21.2000
10 "My Everything" by 98º
It’s a pretty song. And look! I finally remembered to do the degree sign rather than spell everything out! (lol)
09 "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
The one day we should’ve been free of her… she actually comes in and performs for us. And so the video is back.
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
Every time he’s mentioned to my mom (not like this happens a lot, but it’s been a couple times too many), she brings up this long story about how she heard him in an interview on NPR, that he’s really intelligent, that he knows exactly how to market himself, blah blah blah. I swear I’ve heard it so many times I believe it now.
07 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
Whoa, big drop. Apparently people didn’t take to well to the story of her first kiss yesterday?
06 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
05 "Faded" by soulDecision
04 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
Angry Blond, his book, is out today. Angry lyric of the day: “And when you dream I hope you can't sleep and you SCREAM about it, I hope your conscience EATS AT YOU and you can't BREATHE without me.”
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
What is going on this forest standing around? Who stands around in pre-arranged, staggered places? Ever been in dance? Where they tell you to leave the little “windows” to see everyone? That’s how this is: arranged.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
Aw! They wore black and blue! “Backstreet Over Broadway” tonight at 8:30.
Notes:
- 98º debuts
- Yet another contest to introduce a fan to BSB: Tiffany (the “I’m gonna kill you” girl... suddenly insanity gets to meet celebrities) chooses one from sign-making, karaoke, and interviewing skills tested on 2Gether. “She lost, and then lost her mind... and TRL of course is all about 2nd chances.” – Carson
- 2Gether visits (minus QT); season finale tonight
- Ground zero: Backstreet Boys visit for the release of Black & Blue. (I got so much crap from my friends for going to Walmart at first opportunity to get this darn thing, you wouldn’t believe. But it’s worth it.)
- So, I got home early today, and watch Hot Zone while I revel in the new album... it’s funny that they play every single video that’s on TRL, despite the fact those videos get airplay EVERYDAY.

Happy Thanksgiving! No TRL on Thursday or Friday
10 "My Everything" by 98º
They really got that reach-your-hand-out-and-make-the-gallant-sweep gesture DOWN. It’s in EVERY video.
09 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
“A strangely appropriate #13” debut on the charts. News on Manson going for Bush: “I hope we get some good rightwing, Manson-hating people in office.” Who’s willing to sacrifice a whole lot just to get Marilyn here more hated? Not me.
08 "Holler" by Spice Girls
How much does this video echo that other video they did… dancing in the middle of nowhere. They took that and combined it with the “ohmygod it’s not really TLC” look.
07 "Rollin’" by Limp Bizkit
06 "Faded" by soulDecision
05 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
It seems that I’m not the only one with the straight teeth pet peeve… ideal countdowns are the greatest things.
04 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
He still hasn’t found his lyrics notebook. Can you even imagine what we’re missing out on?
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
Ricky’s new album comes in at #4 (Beatles are #1), selling 317,000 copies, falling short of his predictions yesterday.
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Dude, San Francisco is the best city. I’ve totally been on the corner of Van Ness and Market (it’s in a scene).
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
The MTV/Rolling Stone Top 100 Pop Songs rolls all week... Backstreet was there to co-host the top 40 (shown this Saturday)... go read this review of their appearance by a girl in the audience because my GOD this is HUMOR... for anybody.
Notes:
- Carson lets the crew leave early, one by one, and elicits the help of audience members, who by the end completely run the show; even Carson got to leave
- BBMak visits; new video: “Still On Your Side”
- Favorite sign from today: “Fargo (Heart)’s TRL!” That’s my hometown!

“I’ll be honest... I didn’t think there was any room for another boyband in the top 5” – Carson said that even BEFORE we found out about 98º’s record 7 spot jump. Whoa... four man groups in a ROW at the top...
03 "My Everything" by 98º
Record jump--up 7 spots. Previous record: BSB’s “All I Have to Give” jumped 6 spots.
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
Notes:
- BBMak debuts
- Close calls: "Free" by Mya, "Stan" by Eminem, "Dance With Me" by Debelah Morgan
- Thought of the day: Wasn't the break from TRL on Thursday and Friday nice? I think I enjoyed it a little *too* much...
- Interesting tidbit: flat tire ON THE FREEWAY today.

10 "Free" by Mya
The wardrobe this girl picked out rivals that of JC. And you know what that means.
09 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
08 "Faded" by soulDecision
07 "Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit
For some reason, lately, every time I hear this song I think “Rolling. Rolling. Rolling on the river.” It’s getting annoying. Severely.
06 "Still On Your Side" by BBMak
“And I hope you always staaaaayy the saaaaaaammmeeee”... OH, oops. My bad, wrong song.
05 "My Everything" by 98º
It’s a good thing the top four from yesterday got broken up. I thought I was going to need a shot of insulin or something to get through it.
04 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
Request of the day: “Cuz JC lives a half an hour from my house and he can come over anytime!” Not in those pants he can’t.
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
Tour news: March 12 in Phoenix! God, the teenyboppers and screaming I’m going to have to endure. I can’t wait. On a side note, we’ll give the Counter Guy a day or two to fix the “TRL Stats” that pop up. 31 days at #1.
Notes:
- Mya debuts
- Interviewed David Blain, illusionist stuck in ice block.
- Close calls: "Man Overboard" by Blink-182, "South Side" by Moby f/Gwen Stefani, "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
- Boys vs. Girls: identifying artists in videos. Girls won $30 gift certificates to Coconut’s... NOT HARD.
- World premiere Madonna video: “Don’t Tell Me”
- Interesting tidbit II: Got into car today, and was like, “Hmmm... the automatic locks don’t work.” Car battery dead in parking lot.

First week sales reach 1.6 million. (Five million worldwide.) Which isn’t bad, so why’s everybody so disappointed? Maybe we all should’ve bought 2.
Notes:
- Hilarie co-hosts as Carson and the audience goes all over
- Audience members take a tour of the TRL studio: Joelle’s Office, Art Department, MTV Store, Uptown studio, Teck’s Dressing Room, Guest Bathroom, Puffy’s Office, Control Room
- Update on Ashley the Offspring millionaire
- Trip to Puff Daddy’s Office across the street, where he gave out stuff.
- Shock and amazement: I missed today’s show (it's on tape, though, don't worry). You wanna know why? It’s “interesting tidbit III”: I was stuck in line (twice--that’s a long story) getting the emissions tested on my car. Bad car things ALWAYS happen in threes at my house. I knew it would--it ANNOYINGLY NEVER FAILS--and that’s why I posted the first two.

Thursday 11.30.2000
10 "Holler" by Spice Girls
“Despite all the rumors, Sporty Spice is still in the group.” I know I was worried.
09 "Rollin'" by Limp Bizkit
08 "Disposable Teens" by Marilyn Manson
Artist quote: “I like to suffer for my audience.”
07 "Faded" by soulDecision
06 "Stan" by Eminem f/Dido
Lyric of the day: “Dear Mister-I'm-Too-Good-To-Call-Or-Write-My-Fans, this'll be the last package I ever send your ass.” I love doing that dash stuff.
05 "Stronger" by Britney Spears
She has some kind of Christmas special on tonight on FOX. Dude, it’s not even December yet. Maybe I’m just holding out on the whole season.
04 "My Everything" by 98º
Maybe I’m a little too focused on “car things” this week, but that guy, when he’s first shown, isn’t driving in the lines!
03 "She Bangs" by Ricky Martin
02 "This I Promise You" by 'N Sync
They were on Jay Leno last night. Yes, I watched it. Yes, Joey’s got blond hair. Like, LANCE blond hair. JC was SO into it that I was embarrassed for him (we’re talking major hand motions here... worse than Justin’s “when all that surrounds you”!).
01 "Shape of My Heart" by Backstreet Boys
Guess who’s got 4 tickets to their concert March 12!! ... What’s that you say? They’re not on sale yet? Oh, but you see, I’ve reaped the benefits of friends with connections (i.e. her dad is high-power in the management of the arena) and MY GOODNESS I’m excited already.
Notes:
- Making of the TRL Boy Band “ThRiL” with O-Town:
Frat Boy – “The Flirt”
Miss Britney 2000 Gerry – “The Shy One”
Sammy (Cue Card Man) – “The Brain” (Are you wondering why they didn’t pick the infamous Counter Guy? I am.)
Wahib (That freaky Christina – Halloween Costume Contest) – “The Charmer”
Naked Cowboy – “The Hunk”
- Close calls: "South Side" by Moby f/Gwen Stefani, "Still On Your Side" by BBMak, "Free" by Mya
- O-Town visits, news about “Making the Fan” contest (‘cause they don’t have any fans, and they have to make them, or what?)
- World premiere O-Town video: “Liquid Dreams” ... Cross your fingers that this won’t be on the countdown.
