AUGUST GYMBHANA I have long searched for one word that would describe the type of event we are having on August 12, 2000. I have heard and seen the printed word "gymbana" as a description for an event where people show their athletic skills. I went to the dictionary and found this definition –"a meet featuring sports contests or athletic skills". Exercising my editorial privilege as newsletter editor I have chosen the word GymBhana to describe such an event for Basenjis and their families. So—GymBhana- means " a gathering of Basenjis and their families and friends featuring athletic skills, sport contests and social skills of both Basenjis and their family members." Our first GymBhana will be August 12, 2000, Saturday from 4 PM to 10PM. Click here for details. Please do plan to attend. This is a fun event not a general meeting so we invite everyone to come and have fun, food and conversation. Guests are welcome. UPDATE: As many of you know we have applied to the AKC for a license to put on Basenji Specialty in conjunction with one local all-breed show, once a year. A specialty like this does earn championship points for Basenjis that participate. On July 27, 2000 we received notice from the AKC that our application has been received and will be on the agenda of the New Clubs Committee for consideration.
