Chapter Four:
Raspberries

I got home that night around 9pm, quite a bit earlier than we thought we'd be. But I just wasn't having fun. I felt really bad for thinking about Nick most of the day. Fox let it go, pretending nothing was wrong. He didn't wanna keep asking me about what was wrong, so he just kinda dropped it after awhile.

Fox pulled into my driveway and turned off the car. I took a deep breath.

"I'm sorry." I stated plainly.

"For what?" he asked, shocked.

"For ruining the whole day. I was a bitch today, and I'm sorry." I replied.

"WHAT? You didn't ruin anything. Today was great." he said.

"Fox, just stop it. You know that I was acting weird today. I just wanna appologize." I repeated.

"There's no need for you to appologize, baby. I just wanted to be with you, and I was. So it was all good." he finished, seriously. I smiled at him.

"Thank you. I love you so much, more than I could put into words." I told him.

"I love you that much, too." he finished.

I leaned in close and kissed his lips quickly. When I pulled away, he was just smiling. That was all he wanted and needed. I got out of the car after giving him one more kiss. When I went in the house, I went right to my room. But I had only been there for a few minutes when there was a knock on the door.

"Can I come in?" the voice called. It was, of course, Nick.

"Sure." I replied, although I didn't think I really wanted to see him. Why the hell was I thinking about him while I was with my boyfriend?

Nick opened the door and walked over to me.

"Something wrong?" he wondered, as he sat next to me.

"No, not really. You still wanna go out?" I asked him, smiling.

"Of course." he replied. "I saw Marce, Dare and Cher today. They are such great girls, I'm so lucky I got to meet ya'll." he told me. I nodded and replied,

"We were the lucky ones. We got to meet you."

"Ha... well..." Nick didn't know what to say. "You wanna go out now?" he asked.

"Yeah, sure. Let's go." I answered. I stood up, grabbed Nick's hand and the two of us left my bedroom.

We went downstairs and found my mom and my sisters watching a movie in the living room.

"Do I have permission to take your daughter out for coffee, Mrs. Hunter?" Nick asked my mom politely. She smiled and nodded.

"Of course. But don't be late." she replied.

"Oh, we won't. We'll be home in, like, an hour." I butted in. "Let's go Nick." I finished and the two of us then left the house. We got into my car and I started driving.

"So... where are we going?" Nick asked me.

"My favorite coffee place in all of Jackson. And I know that Fox won't be there because he never goes for coffee with me. He hates coffee." I said, not thinking. I just kinda blurted it out.

"Are you... still hiding me from Fox?" he asked me. I nodded.

"Sorry. I just feel bad, and he'd freak out if he found out you were in town." I replied.

"Oh, that's ok." Nick answered.

I drove to the coffee place Raspberries and we went in. We sat down at my favorite booth. It was almost 10pm by that time. We were both silent as we waited for the waitress to come over to us.

"Um..." Nick started. "this is a cool place."

"Yeah, I've come here since I was like 14. I mean, it's like my place. Joey sometimes comes with me, but the other girls haven't ever been here, I don't think. I've written tons of songs in this booth. I've met lots of new friends here, too. It's an awesome place." I replied.

Nick, again, didn't know what to say. "That's awesome. I wish I had a place like that. I mean, the only thing close to that for me is the ocean. I could live on a boat, on the ocean. I love it. I'm a changed man when I'm near water." he told me.

"Yeah, I guess everyone has a place like this." I replied. Nick nodded.

"So... have you writen any songs lately? Like, in the past month?" he asked. I smiled.

"A few. I haven't really had the time. I wrote one here, just last week. It took me like 25 minutes to write, seriously. I love writing songs like that. You know?" I asked back. He nodded, agreeing.

"Yeah, I know. When a song takes more than a few days, I don't think it was meant to be written, you know?" he replied. I just nodded.

A waitress was standing infront of us just a second later. I looked up at her quickly, and noticed that it was my friend Suzanna. I smiled at her.

"Hey Suz!" I said.

"Hey, Fay. You haven't been here in awhile. We miss ya." she replied.

"I know... it sucks. At least I'm here now, right?" I asked. Suzanna nodded. "Oh, this is my friend Nick... Nick this is Suzanna." I introduced them.

"Nice to meet you, Nick." Suzanna smiled at him.

"You too." Nick replied.

"So, Fay, you just want coffee?" Suzanna asked me.

"Yeah, please. We're not staying long." I answered.

"Ok, be right back." she finished and walked away.

"I love Jackson." Nick whispered after she was gone.

"Huh? Why?" I asked him.

"Because no one here cares that I'm a Backstreet Boy." he laughed. "Or maybe no one knows."

"Oh, everyone knows. But people really respect other people here. I think Suzanna knew, but she wouldn't make a scene, she's not like that." I told him.

"That's awesome, I love that. I can really tell that you grew up here." he complimented me.

"What's that mean?" I asked, knowing what he meant.

"I can tell... that... you're just really respectful, and a great person, and I love that." he told me.

"Thank you, Nick. You're a great person, too." I replied. I pondered whether or not to say what came to my mind next, but I decided to say it, "You know... sometimes I wish that Fox wasn't in the picture..."

"Ok... what's that mean?" he asked me.

"Then... you could be my boyfriend." I told him, but regretted it almost as soon as it came out of my mouth.

"Shit, girl... d-don't tease me like that. I know I'll never get to be your boyfriend. You and Fox were meant for each other, you'll always be together." he told me.

"I know... and Nick, I swear that you're going to find the girl that you are meant to be with, and you'll be happy, I promise." I said.

"I sure hope so..." he started. "But I wish it could've been you."
