Recordings:1999
Note: The list is in ascending order
29. Cool
Breeze Tonight (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
acoustic guitars, piano, bass
Recorded: December 1999,
Binn Eadair View Studios
Produced by: Robert
Crosbie
Appears on: "Secret" LP
A very tender
reading of another lovely ballad, "Cool Breeze Tonight" was
written in a marathon session in 1998 when Robert came up
with 6 songs, most of which made it on to "Secret". This one
is probably the best of these, with its chiming guitar and
passionate vocal (inspired by David Gray).
28. Gone Away Tonight (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
acoustic guitars, Spanish guitar, bass, drums, harmony
vocal
Recorded: December 1999, Binn Eadair View
Studios
Produced by: Robert Crosbie
Appears on:
"Lotus" LP
One of the better
pop / rock songs, this track lies on a cushion of acoustic
guitars and flows very nicely. A live favourite, the songs
two main hooks are the acoustic guitar intro (played
throughout by one guitar and repeated in the middle 8) and
the last line of the chorus ("..I'm not about / to let you
down"). Written in 1998.
27. Shadows (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Acoustic
guitar, slide guitar, electric guitar, bass,
drums
Recorded: December 1999, Binn Eadair View
Studios
Produced by: Robert Crosbie
Appears on: "Chasing The
Sun"
Another instrumental, and a very
good piece of music, best used as the segue piece
(rather than a stand alone track) before the title track of
the 3rd
album. When the electric guitar explodes at the climax of
this song, it sounds like the sun bursting through the clouds. Fitting
indeed, that it is "Chasing The Sun". Written in 1999.
26. Lions - single version (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
electric guitars, bass, drums
Recorded: December 1999,
Binn Eadair View Studios
Produced by: Robert
Crosbie
Appears on: unreleased
One of
the rawest and one of the most rocking Lotus songs. The origin
of this song is interesting: the basic four-chord riff
was written almost two years before recording. Only
when recorded (during a studio experiment) did the song get
finished and lyrics were added. True testament to getting
your mojo working! The song packs more punch than anything up
to now. Written in 1998.
25. Don't Want You To Change - early version (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
acoustic guitar, bass, drums
Recorded: December 1999,
Binn Eadair View Studios
Produced by: Robert
Crosbie
Appears on: unreleased
This ballad was
first recorded in 1996, and this new version differs only
slightly, as it features drums and bass. But little else.
However, the sparseness emphasises the melody, and the
middle 8 solo is particularly effective. Written in 1996.
24.
Tomorrow When I'm Lonely (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
acoustic guitar, acoustic lead guitar, bass,
bongos
Recorded: December 1999, Binn Eadair View
Studios
Produced by: Robert Crosbie
Appears on: "I Want To Be On
My Own Again"
/ B-Side
A very good ballad, featuring the first
occurance of bongos as percussion. One of the best of these early
recordings. This is a stand out B-Side, due to its original
sound and honest reading. The fade out guitar solo is
exquisite. Written in 1998.
23b. How Will I Know? (cover version)
Crosbie: Vocal,
acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano
MacMahon: Backing
vocal O'
Farrell: Backing Vocal
Recorded: December 1999, Binn
Eadair View Studios
Produced by: Robert
Crosbie
Appears on: unreleased
A drunken version
of the Whitney Houston hit, featuring friends Eoin MacMahon
and Paul O'Farrell (who co-wrote "Nadia" and "Midnight
Moonlight") and backing vocals / yelling. Written n/a.
23a. When You Say Nothing At All (cover
version)
MacMahon:
Vocal
Crosbie: acoustic guitar, bass, drums, piano,
backing vocal
Recorded: December 1999, Binn Eadair View

Recorded for Eoin's girlfriend Dominique! Written n/a.
23.
Feet In The Rain - early version (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
electric guitar, lead guitar, bass, drums, backing vocal,
percussion
Recorded: November 1999, Binn Eadair View
Studios
Produced by: Robert Crosbie
Appears
on: unreleased
A somewhat
chaotic recording, "Feet In The Rain" is designed to come
bursting in before the gentleness of "There's No Pretending"
on the "Lotus" LP. This song has some great chord changes,
and the chorus is fantastic. The extended coda takes the
song in a new direction (it began as a song in itself) and
all in all it is an exciting track. Written in 1998.
22. Nadia (Crosbie / O'Farrell)
Crosbie: Vocal,
electric guitar, lead guitar, bass, drums, backing vocal,
percussion
Recorded: November 1999, Binn Eadair View
Studios
Produced by: Robert Crosbie
Appears on:
"Radiate" LP
The second co-written Lotus
song, "Nadia" started out as a joke
but Robert got a good recording down and decided to
include it on "Radiate". Its a very memorable tune with a
catchy chorus and easy going rock feel. Written in 1998.
21. Smile At Me (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
acoustic guitars, bass, drums, organ
Recorded: November
1999, Binn Eadair View Studios
Produced by: Robert
Crosbie
Appears on: "Radiate" LP
"Smile At Me"
opens "Radiate", and is a sunny, upbeat song inspired by a
Lemonheads lyric. The song gets funky in the middle 8 and
features some great organ playing. Written in 1999.
20. Walk To The Lake (Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
acoustic guitars, bass, drums, harmony vocal
Recorded:
November 1999, Binn Eadair View Studios
Produced by:
Robert Crosbie
Appears on: "Radiate" LP
The first song
recorded by Robert in his Binn Eadair View Studios. Fast,
snappy and too the point, with very simple production.
Written in 1999.
19. Why Don't You Say Something? - demo
(Crosbie)
Crosbie: Vocal,
piano, bass, organ
Meehan: Loops,
programming
Recorded: 19th April 1999, Paul
Meehan's studio
Produced by: Paul Meehan
Appears on:
unreleased
A very short demo
of this "Secret" album track. Quite good, but at only a
minute long, it is a fraction of the length the final track
will be (probably around 8 minutes!) Written in 1999.
