Recordings:2001
(part 3) Note: The list is in ascending order

186. Two Hearts, Too Far (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic guitars, electric guitar, bass, drums
Recorded: 9th August 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: unreleased

Another new album song, and a great one at that. This is an energetic folky track; possibly a single, and with a great chord change and an impressive vocal performance. The song still deals with the issues of far-away romance, a subject which fuelled much of the "Ballet Dancer" album. That it shows its influence eight albums later proves that this subject is still close to Robert's heart. Written in 2001.

185. Walking Down (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass, drums
Recorded: 4rd August 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: "Chasing The Sun"

The second last "Chasing The Sun" LP track to be recorded, the remaining song is "If I Go". This song is unique as it is one of the only Lotus tracks that came to its author fully finished in his head. Out at the time, Rob rushed home to grab his guitar and see if the song would work. It did, and this is the result. Almost a sequel to "Just That Day", it employs a similar arrangement as that track, and the lyrics tell the story from the other perspective. In this sense "Walking Down" quietly continues the narrative. The long ending chord sequence (very Red House Painters) suggests these events will not be forgotten easily. Written in 1994.

184. This Is Who I Am - demo(Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic guitars
Recorded: 4rd August 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: unreleased

A demo of a brand new song. The lyrics are incomplete, Robert coughs during the opening chorus, yet this song looks like being a strong opening track for the next album. Written in 2001.

183. Its Not You (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, electric guitars, bass, drums, acoustic guitars
Recorded: 3rd August 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: "Chasing The Sun"

This is a powerul track, strummed hard. Featurng a raw vocal and crashing cymbals, this is a great ending to the first half of the album. Written in 1995.

182. You & I - remake (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, electric guitars, bass, drums, acoustic guitar, backing vocal, percussion
Recorded: 29th July 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: "Lotus"

Remake-fever continues, with a new take on the previously decent "Lotus" album opening track. This version follows the exact same arrangement as the original, but with more backing vocals. The difference is in the sound; the tougher drums and more breathy vocals make "You & I" resemble more recent Lotus recordings. Written in 1997.

181. Untitled - Instrumental (Crosbie / Barnard)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic lead guitar
Barnard: Acoustic guitar
Recorded: 25th July 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: unreleased

An instrumental version of a brand new song, co-written by Robert with Chris Barnardm who plays acoustic guitar on this rough demo. Written in 2001.

180. Walk To The Lake - remake (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic guitars, bass, drums, electric guitar, backing vocal
Recorded: 15th July 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: "Radiate"

The second "Radiate" remake in a row. This is, of course, the very first song Rob recorded in his Binn Eadair View studio, and here he sets about improving the sound. The pace is less frantic and the acoustic guitar sounds fuller. Plus the vocal is now sung lower, making the song sound 100% better than the previous version. As a song, it is typical catchy Lotus - although this song is so succinct it doesn't even have a middle 8. Written in 1999.

179. Nadia - remake (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic guitars, bass, drums, lead guitar, backing vocal, tambourine
Recorded: 14th July 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: "Radiate"

This song still borders on a joke, yet Robert re-recorded it here as the original master was lost. It has to be said the chorus is extremely catchy, but next to such masterpieces as "Free Spirit" and "Lions" this song is second rate. Still, it holds its place on the "Radiate" album. Written in 1998.

178. Sacred Heart (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic guitars, bass, drums, electric guitar
Recorded: 13th July 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: "Just Another Universe"

An absolutely stunning new song, written and recorded quite quickly. Featuring poetic lyrics and tender guitar playing, this is a perfect example of mature, late-period Lotus and shows how Robert's songwriting has developed from such fluff as "Aeroplanes". The guitar line keeps the pace throughout, and as the song ends in an explosion of strummed guitar, one can almost sense the burning passion this song refers to. "Sacred Heart" was added as a replacement for "Nobody Knows" at the last minute, such was its quality and similarity with the mood of the "Universe" album. Written in 2001.

177. Does She Say (Crosbie)

Crosbie: Vocal, acoustic guitar, bass, drums, electric guitars
Recorded: 1st July 2001, Binn Eadair View Studio
Produced By: Robert Crosbie
Appears On: "Chasing The Sun"

"Does She Say" is a fast paced, melodic rocker similar to the Lemonheads "Down About It". The lyrics are again quite honest in the style of the earlier songs, and in this case particularly selfish regarding the romantic situation the author is in. Musically, it shifts from the major D of the verse to the F#m chorus quite well, and is energetic and well performed. A perfect album track. Written in 1994.
