About Neoteny

Neoteny was formed in Lake City, South Carolina in June 1999. (Don't worry if you've never heard of it; if not, you're in the majority.) Guitarist Wells Floyd contacted two of his old high school friends, bassist Andy Jordan and drummer Charles Tomlinson, about forming a band. By the middle of June 1999, the band that was to become Neoteny played together for the first time.

By the first practice, which was held in Charles' backyard garage, Wells had already written three original songs. These, as well as Nirvana and U2 covers, were some of the first songs the band learned. A big problem emerged when Wells moved to Surfside Beach in the middle of the summer, but the guys still practiced whenever possible.

By August, the band had worked up a 30-minute repertoire of three original songs and several cover songs, including "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana and "With or Without You" by U2. On lucky old Friday, August the 13th, Neoteny played their first concert at the White House in Coward. (Once again, don't worry if you've never heard of it. It's smaller than Lake City.) They performed along with Retrostar, a local emo band.

Currently, Andy and Chuck T are at USC, practicing whenever this damn school isn't sucking the life out of us. They've written some new stuff and are pondering with ideas for covers (there are so many out there...floating...). If they ever get their acts together, they are going to record some of that crap with help of a mystery guest or two...

And that's where Neoteny stands today.

NEOTENY PERFORMS LIVE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A YEAR, AND CHANGES THE WORLD!
Neoteny played to a small crowd Saturday, the 22nd of April, and ripped through a 17 song set. When asked what Neoteny thought of their performance, Wells Floyd, (guitar) said, "Well, I think we did pretty good. I mean, hey, at least we aren't communists."
