"Hours pass into days and time slips away,
but the words we speak and the things we do
touch the lives of others and live on forever."
"Those who share their laughter and their smiles with everyone
and help others feel a sense of their own worth
Are God's own special angels who may pass this way but once,
But who truly make a difference here on Earth."
--Emily Matthews
Neoteny mourns the recent loss of good friend Rod Chandler. Since Neoteny formed last summer, Rod was a constant supporter of the band. He was always willing to lend a hand; he even missed a night of work to record our August 13 concert at the White House.
Moreover, however, he was my best friend. We met when I was in seventh grade and Rod was in eighth. Despite attending different high schools, however, we were always close friends. We always visited each other on the weekends.
During his sophomore year, Rod bought his first bass guitar. In the next few years, he devoted himself to the instrument. He could very well have been one of the greats. After graduating high school, he went on to attend Horry-Georgetown Tech. During this time, he joined the local band Shaywise, his first serious gig. Things were really going well for Rod.
It saddens all of us that Rod is no longer here with us. His friendliness and generosity will be greatly missed. Rod was loved and is missed terribly by his mother, father, "big" sister, and "little" brother. He was a talented musician, a hard worker, and a great friend. We love you, Rod.
