The recorder is a wind instrument dating back to the 14th century. There are 4 voices in
our quartet: soprano, alto, tenor and bass (from highest to lowest tone). However, other voices exist.
Baroque composers such as Handel, Bach, Purcell and others wrote extensively for recorders. As
time went by, however, the soft-spoken recorder fell out of favor as concert halls grew larger.
In the 20th century, recorders have become popular again with contemporary composers and
musicians.
