Okay, I'm not very well at writing biographies so I'm going to keep this short and to the point.

Before the band formed Adam Jones was working in the film industry doing special effects, Danny Carey and Maynard James Keenan were in a band called Green Jelly as a joke. The three formed the band together with Paul D'Amour, but he was later replaced by Justin Chancellor.

They released the Opiate EP in 1992 (sold over 800,000 copies). Then Undertow (sold over 2 milion copies) the next year and finally Ænima in 1996 (which has sold over 2.4 million copies). It has been four years since and their new CD Lateralus is greatly anticipated.

The delay has been due to touring for Tool, and then the time that Maynard was busy touring for A Perfect circle, and a lawsuit against them filed by their manager Ted Garner on November 22 of last year. The lawsuit has been settled and Garner has been fired. Because of this Tool actually only worked on the new album during this past year for the most part.

Tool recently released Salival, alimited edition box set with a CD and either VHS or DVD videos for "Sober", "Prison Sex", "Stinkfist" and "Aenima".

The track listing for Salival is:

1. "Third Eye" (live)

2. "Part of Me" (live)

3. "Push It" (live)

4. "Harry Manback II" (unreleased studio track)

5. "You Lied" (live)

6. "Merkaba" (live)

7. "No Quarter" (unreleased studio track)

8. "L.A Municipal Court (unreleased studio track)

The past year Keenan has formed a side project band called A Perfect Circle with Josh Freeze, Paz Lenchantin, Troy Van Leeuwn, and Billy Howerdel. The band however has become more than a side project with it's first CD Mer Des Noms, which has been given great reviews and is a great CD where Keenan himself says that before A Perfect Circle " a lot of Tool fans weren't aware that I could sing."
