Tool are on the cover of the June 2001 issue of Spin magazine! There is about a four page article inside about Tool and their new album. Here are some quotes from the article, but you should really go out and buy it for the full affect!

"This is as close to hell as Earth gets. When it's crowded, it's most intolerable. You want to get out a rifle, stand out on a building, and...erase the karmic debt, so to speak."--Maynard, talking about L.A.

"Once Adam and I were leaving the Hollywood Palladium after seeing a show and after we said goodnight and split to go to our cars, some kid runs up to me, frantic-'Oh my God, oh my god, oh my God, were you just talking to Adam Jones from Tool?' I was like, 'Yeah, he's cool, you should go talk to him. He might take you out to dinner.'"-Maynard

"Every aspect of what we do - each song, each video, each album cover - is tortured over by each of us. Nothing comes easy for this band."-Maynard

"I think people who listen to Perfect Circle hear something totally different from me. It's much more like the Cure. It's more ethereal and accessible. Also, I think a lot of Tool fans weren't aware that I could sing."-Maynard

"Maynard's approach to music is out in left field in comparison with other musicians. I'm pretty sure he knows all that, and it's probably why he's such a smartass little fucker."-Chino Moreno, lead singer of Deftones

(As you probably know the two are good friends and Maynard appears on the song "Passenger" on Deftone's third CD, WHITE PONY. It is a very beautiful song and I can hardly distinguish who is singing what.)

"You're not allowed to have fun here. Some fun was probably just detected."-Maynard, as an alarm goes off in one of the stores he is passing

"Tool fans aren't masculine to the point of grunt-rock or whatever, with that kind of herd mentality. Maybe I'm completely kidding myself and overestimating our audience, but I feel like there's a definite percentage more thinkers."-Maynard

Here are a few things that I wasn't aware of concerning Maynard that the article mentions:

-Maynard joined the army after high school! He said he realized it wasn't right for him as soon as the bus pulled out of the parking lot. :)

-Maynard owns four hairless cats.

-Maynard performed comedy in after-hour clubs. Here he became friends with Bob Odenkirk and David Cross. (This issue of Spin magazine also features an article on David Cross.) Maynard has also been in several MR. SHOW skits.

-Maynard is working on some type of secret supergroup (again). The band is called Tapeworm and has Trent Rezner as leading and with members from Rage, Melvins, and Deftones. (If anyone knows anything more definite about this new project please contact me at opiate@freeze.com .)

Also, if you have any pictures from this article that you don't mind having posted on my site, I would really appreciate it. (Or any pictures of Tool for that matter, lol).
