MORE ANTI-AIRCRAFT AT SAN FRANCISCO

The San Francisco harbor defenders had three major-caliber anti-aircraft batteries protecting the airspace above their coastal guns. Fort Funston, within the S.F. city limits had one of the batteries. The other two were located at Forts Barry and Cronkhite on the other side of the Golden Gate.

THE AA REMAINS OF WOLF RIDGE

The 3-inch battery at Wolf Ridge, Fort Cronkhite, covered the northern elements of the Golden Gate defenses. The concrete-filled sandbags lining the concrete pad are what remains of the height-finder emplacement. The battery living quarters were dug into the distant hilltop.

UNDERGROUND CREW QUARTERS

Corrugated iron forms the shell of the underground crew quarters of the Wolf Ridge AA battery. Upper and lower bunks lined both sides of the corridor. Note the wash basins at far wall.
