AIR PROTECTION FOR SAN FRANCISCO DEFENSE

The barren heights overlooking San Francisco's famed Golden Gate are still dotted with the remains of anti-aircraft gun positions from World War Two.

HIDDEN FORTS OF WOLF RIDGE

At the Wolf Ridge AA battery, a sliding metal roof camouflaged the concrete well of the direction-finder instrument. Through the pit floor, stairs led below to the crew quarters.

TARGET---PT BOATS

The Golden Gate defenders deployed many 40mm AA weapons with high firing rates for close-in air defense. Often, these weapons were also sited to fire on speedy surface targets like PT boats.
