Thanksgiving

Pictures from the first Thanksgiving dinner at our church in Tampere. Shaun had the ideas, Eeva had the skills, and I looked great in an apron. We were quite a team. Check out our 10kg turkey! Yam dishes, veggies, mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey... this Thanksgiving was about abundance! There was enough food for fifty to sixty people, so the 35 of us had quite a job to do.
The food turned out wonderfully, thank God! Having nearly burned the turkey (among so many close-calls) we had much to be thankful for. Cutting the turkey with Eeva and Shaun. I was grateful to learn so much more about cooking from these two. We also appreciate the help many others gave us.
Dinner together. This is what it was all about! It was good to meet new people, sing together, share thankful hearts, and finish with a powerful solo of "Amazing Grace." Desserts... oh yeah! At first we had no plans to make pumpkin pie; no one seemed to know how. But just hours before dinner we cut the bottom out of our pumpkin and tried it out. Delicious!
Phew! The dinner ended and we were exhausted. The turkey looked like a war zone, the pumpkin had seen better days, but we had been filled with good food and time together. Yummm... Nothing like munching on the leftovers! Looking back, there was much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving - most of all how it grew us to be such closer friends.
