"The Beach" is based on a novel by Alex Garland. It's about a guy named Richard that is traveling the world looking for escape, adventure, and the thrill of danger. When he's in a hotel in Thailand, he meets Daffy, a bald headed guy that is in the room next to him. Daffy tells him about a secret beach, and gives him a map. So Richard and 2 french friends travel to the Beach only to find it's populated by many other people. So they join the group and become important to them. Leo DiCaprio plays Richard, probably the best acting by Leo I've seen, who passed the lead for American Psycho
for this. Probably the best acting part is when Leo does a Marlon Brando type of mood that is inspired from "Apocolypse Now" The movie follows the book fairly well. The scenery is amazing, and the story grabs you pretty well. It's out to rent now, so pick it up sometime.
