People always think that rich, sucessful, Wall Street Executives are happy with their lives. Well some are, and then there are exceptions. Patrick Bateman is one of those exceptions. Outside, he is a funny, cool, and likable business man. Inside, he is a souless, cold, and calculating man. The movie, "American Psycho", portrays how his life goes. By day he works, exercises, has a balanced diet, uses plenty of skin and body treatments. The by night, he kills people. Hookers, Call girls, homeless men and their dogs, and just people that piss him off too. The thing I liked about the movie the most is the acting. The way he portrays his yuppie, judgemental character is astounding. The things he worries about and makes him nervous are things that we small town folk laugh. The movie is loaded with violence, sex, and black humor, but the violence is tame, even though you know exactly what happens, the sex isn't XXX, and the black humor makes you laugh even if you know that it's horrible to laugh at. Christian Bale portrays Patrick, an unknown actor until now. He got the part over Leo DiCaprio, who ducked out to do The Beach
. That was probably a very good move for the producers. Leo doesn't have the acting ability that Bale put into the character. The movie is out to rent right now in the new release section. Rent it and enjoy a main-stream/but indie film.
