Nose flute. Called the "TURALI" in the Kadazan-Dusun language. Musical notes made by blowing air through the nose and fingers holding/releasing air on the various holes along the flute. Normally played for personal entertainment or to express greif at the demise of a relative.

Mouth flute. Called the "SULING" in the Kadazan-Dusun language. Made from bamboo. Used like the normal flute. Normally played for personal entertainment.

Bamboo whistle. Whistling sound made by blowing on the top and pulling the bamboo holder up or down to make musical notes. Played for personal entertainment.

Bamboo harp with a few strings on the side (carved from the main bark. Called the "TUNGKUNGON"in the Kadazan-Dusun language. Small pieces of bamboo are inserted at each end of the strings to allow for pitch alteration. Musical notes made by strumming with both thumbs while other fingers hold the main body. Notes vary from top to bottom of instruments (in accordance to diameter of bamboo bark). Sound emited similar to the sound of gongs. Played for personal and family entertainment.

Mouth organ. Called the "SOMPOTON" in the Kadazan-Dusun language. Upper part made from bamboo and lower part made from dried gourd (vegetable). Musical notes made by blowing into the mouthpiece and fingers releasing/stopping air on the four horizontal pipes. Points upwards. Played for personal entertainment or in a group together with other instruments. Musical sounds similar to that of the bagpipe.

The Jaw harp. Called the "BUNGKAU" in the Kadazan-Dusun language. Made from the outer skin of a type of palm tree. Music made by holding one end near to the mouth (the end which has a central lamella) while the other end is vibrated with the thumb. Actual notes made by the mouth opening and closing like a fish to magnify the sound which the stick makes by vibration. Musical sound similar to those ade by the Australian Aboriginal people. Played for personal entertainment.

Drum. Called the "GENDANG" in the Malay language. Top part made from domesticated goat's skin/cowhide fixed to the holowed out wooden body. String allows it to be carried on the shoulder. Often played together with other instruments such as the gongs.
